Mike Tice Fired

MINNEAPOLIS - The Minnesota Vikings fired coach Mike Tice after Sunday's victory over Chicago. ADVERTISEMENT

The team announced that owner Zygi Wilf would not renew Tice's contract less than an hour after the Vikings' 34-10 win over the Bears in the regular season finale. Tice, who finished his fourth full season with a 32-32 record, had already addressed the media before the move was made public.

His tenure was mostly marked by streaks and scandals, with a $100,000 fine levied last summer against him by the league for scalping his Super Bowl tickets and a wild boat party during the team's bye week this season that produced misdemeanor charges for four players.

After starting 2-5, the Vikings won six straight before losing two in a row to fall out of contention for the playoffs.

Reid is not going to be fired.....The coaching polls is not very deep this year so why when your best player was traded and your starting QB was injuried will you fire someone who went 9-7?

I hope the Viqueens hire a coach that will continue their mediocrity.

Sure didn't wait long, did they? I actually thought there was a chance of Tice coming back next season.

Let the speculation on replacements begin.

The wrong Mike. I was hoping it would be Mike Sherman.

What, did you used to listen to Steve Cannon on WCCO as well?

Problem with the Vikes is they've always had world class receivers and insisted on dinking out 3-yard screen passes.

And a better defense wouldn't have hurt...

And don't EVEN get me started on the Herschel Walker trade of yesteryear...

Cheers!

I think Tice is dumb as a stump, but he didn't deserve to get canned.

So long as we can outdo the Cheeseheads, it's all good.

Ugh... Even reading that name again makes me want to break out the whiskey and drink to forget.

That, in itself, is a rarity. By the way, how many NFL titles do the Viqueens have?

Zero. The same number of quarterbacks you have to replace Brett Farve after this season.

Its Favre. You'd think that after 15 years you might be able to remember that...but they again if you root for the Viqueens you are likely ignurnt. Aaron Rodgers was drafted by the Packers and was the highest rated quarterback in the draft. Pretty good start at replacing Favre. Which gives the Packers one more potential quality quarterback than the Viqueens possess.

Oh, and by the way, the Green Bay Packers have won more championships - 12 - than any other team in National Football League history. Must suck to not have any.

Looks like the Bears have a pretty clear shot at the Division championship for a couple of years now. Shambles in Detroit and Minnesota and Green Bay either rebuilding or trying to hang on to an illusion that the team is close. Woowho. We tried to get the vikes to keep Tice with that stinker today.

yea, The Packers are way to much into hero warship to do what is the best for the team. Soon as they were eliminated from the playoffs the backup QB should have started and Favre should have been on the bench. Now they have to waste a perfectly good season trying to groom a "rookie" whenever they decide to fire Favre.
