IT'S AN HOUR after the Miami Heat shocked the basketball world, taking a 2-0 lead over the Boston Celtics in the Eastern Conference finals. And Jimmy Butler, who just scored 27 points in 41 grueling minutes is ... singing. As he walks to the postgame podium, inside a makeshift conference room in the belly of Boston's TD Garden, country music singer Morgan Wallen's "Somebody's problem" blares from a speaker attached to the Heat star's phone. Somebody's problem, but that ain't minnnnnne, Butler croons. As he breaks down the game, and his heated, forehead-to-forehead exchange with Celtics forward Grant Williams, after...

LeBron James is the GOAT when it comes to telling small, meaningless lies. The NBA community has been mourning the death of rapper Takeoff, whose real name is Kirshnik Ball, since he was killed in Houston last week. Takeoff was 1/3rd of Migos, the popular rap trio from Atlanta that went to the top of the charts with their sophomore album “Culture” and were often seen in NBA circles. LeBron James was asked about Takeoff’s death on Sunday afternoon after the Los Angeles Lakers lost the Cleveland Cavaliers, 114-100, in LA. His answer went viral for all the wrong reasons. James...

Miami Heat star Dwyane Wade is nearing his retirement from the NBA, but he just made an all-star move as a dad. The guard voiced solidarity with his 11-year-old son Zion, who attended the Miami Beach Pride parade on Sunday. “We support each other with Pride!” Wade wrote in an Instagram story, accompanied by a photo of the lad and his stepmom, actress Gabrielle Union. Wade noted in another image that Zion, posing with family and friends, had his own cheering section. “Wish I was there to see you smile kid!” he wrote with a rainbow flag emoji.

Joel Embiid’s teammates didn’t know what he had planned for the moment The Process finally made way for the playoffs. Since he’s been out for the past two weeks with that left orbital fracture, Embiid has petitioned different companies that make protective face masks with a special request: to give him a half-mask, covering the left side of his face, reminiscent of the one worn by the Phantom of the Opera. “The Phantom of the Process” — as Embiid has dubbed himself with a new social-media hashtag — made his debut before the Philadelphia 76ers hosted Game 1 of their...

Basketball legend Ray Allen took to the road for the holidays. But this wasn’t your ordinary family Christmas visit. Allen, who played with the Miami Heat and Boston Celtics, joined the USO Holiday Tour to visit military personnel overseas, with stops including Afghanistan and Qatar. But Allen didn’t just speak and mingle with the troops at military bases last week. He also experienced a few adventures of his own, like hanging from an airborne CH-47 Chinook helicopter over Afghanistan. *********snip******** He grew up around military bases as the son of an Air Force mechanic. The holiday tour showed appreciation to...

LeBron James will exercise the early termination option in his contract with the Miami Heat, becoming an unrestricted free agent, his agent told ESPN's Chris Broussard. It doesn't necessarily mean that he's leaving Miami. By opting out, he can sign a new five-year maximum contract with the Heat. If he left Miami, he could only get a four-year deal with a slightly lower annual salary. The difference between staying and leaving is $33 million.

Yes, the same team that has made the NBA Finals four straight times and has won the last two titles. The booing continued at various points in the second half. However, the booing was gone once the crowd started thinning out.

MIAMI—When speaking about his oft-criticized and overanalyzed star, LeBron James, Miami Heat coach Erik Spoelstra has a line: you cannot win unless you win. ames won in every conceivable way on Thursday as his Heat beat the Oklahoma City Thunder 121-106 in Game 5 of the finals to win James's first NBA title, erasing nine years of doubts and disappointment. The man dubbed "The King" while in high school finally had his coronation, and while the game will go down in history as James' vindication party, it will not be remembered as particularly dramatic. The Heat opened it up in...

LeBron James may have canceled his NBA world tour plans to spend more time with his family. But he’s found plenty of time to recruit more stars to Miami. LeBron tweeted this Thursday: "Maybe @SteveNash in a Heat uni! So we can help each other get our 1st ring" Nevermind the fact that Nash is still under contract with the Phoenix Suns for one more season. Or that there’s no way this could work financially whenever the league resumes. If LeBron doesn’t think three all-star players are enough to win his first championship, he’s got bigger issues. This can’t make...

MIAMI— The end. Of the hype. And the hope. Of instant gratification. And of vindication. Year One of the Big Three ended with a thud Sunday night for the Miami Heat at AmericanAirlines Arena. There will be no capping of last July's premature celebration over the free-agency signings of LeBron James, Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh. Instead, there will be reflection on nights such as Sunday, when a 105-95 loss to the Dallas Mavericks in Game 6 of the NBA Finals brought down the curtain on the 2010-11 season. And started a new waiting game, leaving plenty of questions in...

ESPN reports that Miami Heat players are now openly questioning coach Erik Spoelstra and his ability to guide them to an NBA title. The team is 9-8, but Spoelstra's greatest crime so far? Telling LeBron James that "I can't tell when you're serious." What a monster! And the revolt may not be so private, judging by LeBron's shoulder bump that he put on Spoelstra during a timeout on Saturday. Team sources say that Spoelstra is pushing players too hard, because he fears for his job. Perhaps he fears for his job, because anonymous team sources are already running to ESPN...

Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh have committed to Miami, two league sources confirmed, which leaves LeBron James and Carlos Boozer as the last two big-money free agents on the board. The important specifics of the Miami agreements were unknown on Wednesday, the day before new contracts can officially be signed. Will both Wade and Bosh receive max deals, or are they planning to accept less money in order to create room for James to join them? Will the Raptors accept Michael Beasley in a sign-and-trade for Bosh, which would clear space for Miami to offer near-max deals to James, Wade...
