Set record with 239-foot driveA pair of daredevils from Maine have powered a small car to a world record fueled by soda and candy. Fritz Grobe and Stephen Voltz created a car that was powered by 54 bottles of Coke Zero and 324 pieces of Mentos. The car, named Mark II, set a record by traveling 239 feet. To get it moving, the rocket car uses a simple piston mechanism, they explain on their website EepyBird.com. However, they warn that the force is powerful and no one should try it home. Their previous attempts got it to travel 220 feet....

The masterminds behind the Mentos/Coke geysers are back, and this time they're in 3-D! They're also harnessing the chemical reaction between Mentos mint candy and Coke Zero soda pop to send a rocket car rolling out of a hangar, to a distance mark of 221 feet. EepyBird's Fritz Grobe and Stephen Voltz made the Mentos/Coke combination famous four years ago when they combined the ingredients to create increasingly ornate fountain displays. Since then, the stunt has generated loads of viral buzz - and even a scientific paper explaining why the combination sets off so much fizz. (It has to do...

Lieberman Still Trails But within the margin of error. (Quinnipiac University poll -- via Bloomberg News) With tomorrow's Democrat Primary in the offing, a poll of likely Democrat voters gives a slight nod to the challenger 51 - 45 with a margin of error of +/- 3.5%. As much as I would like to see the Democrats pull a McGovern and go hard left, for the sake of the country, I hope Joe pulls this one out.

Cola rocket goes Mento Fizzy fountain ... the conventional method      By PETE BELL Sun OnlineTHE latest internet craze to sweep the nation involves a packet of mints, a two-litre bottle of diet cola and a lot of stupidity.Drop the sweets into the drink and you can create an instant 20ft fizzy fountain.  Scientists are divided on the cause of the phenomenon. Some say it is a reaction between the surface of the mints (we found American brand Mentos worked the best) and the carbon dioxide in the drink.Others say an ingredient in the cola is agitated by something in...

More than 100 2-liter bottles of Diet Coke. More than 500 Mentos (Note: 1 of each will work). And two men in goggles and lab coats. You can imagine that this portends a fateful—and combustible—encounter. But perhaps you can't imagine just how combustible, nor how stylishly orchestrated. EepyBird compares the results to a "mint-powered version of the Bellagio Fountains in Las Vegas." A Blue Man Group-hijacking of Old Faithful comes to mind too, though certainly the Bellagio corners the market on geyser choreography—until EepyBird, that is. After you ogle the video, take in some of the earlier experiments, such as...
