Set record with 239-foot drive
A pair of daredevils from Maine have powered a small car to a world record fueled by soda and candy.
Fritz Grobe and Stephen Voltz created a car that was powered by 54 bottles of Coke Zero and 324 pieces of Mentos. The car, named Mark II, set a record by traveling 239 feet.
To get it moving, the rocket car uses a simple piston mechanism, they explain on their website EepyBird.com. However, they warn that the force is powerful and no one should try it home.
Their previous attempts got it to travel 220 feet.
Despite their excitement, Grobe and Voltz warned other amateur thrill-seekers not to try this at home.
There is a huge amount of power involved, and we dont want you to get hurt, they said.
Video at Site.
It is safer than the Chevy Volt. What’s the MPG of it?
It is the next generation of great ideas from Government Motors, what is the carbon footprint of this car?
Using the Volt method of determining mileage (where you ignore all energy input except gasoline), the Mentos car gets Unlimited MPG.
Great video! A couple of REAL Americans!
Daredevils??????? More like morons. 54 liters of zero? Must be government motors.
11.356 Mentos per gallon.
Uh, that was FEET per gallon!! And, who gets to try to keep the streets clean while we car all traveling to gramma’s house for CHRISTmas in our Colacars.
Obamacar ping.
Thanks nickcarraway.
It must be HUGE!!! all it is is CO2 coming out of solution, right? BTW someone said 54L of Coke Zero, it should be 108L of Coke Zero (2L bottles, right?)
