Omaha police have arrested Dominic M. Henton of Papillion, Nebraska as a suspect in the Wednesday assault of Martha McSally, a former United States senator. Police used surveillance video and other investigative means to identify Henton, according to a news release. In video stills shared by police, Henton is seen following McSally over the Bob Kerry Pedestrian Bridge and then southbound on the trail at Tom Hanafan River's Edge Park in Council Bluffs.
  • The seven Senate seats most likely to flip in 2022

Democrats are fighting tooth and nail to hold on to their ultra-narrow Senate majority this year in a midterm election cycle that has several of the party’s most vulnerable incumbents facing voters amid rising inflation and surging gas prices. Republicans need to net just one new seat this year to reclaim control of the upper chamber. Still, Democrats are more optimistic about their chances of holding their Senate majority than they are their House majority and are eyeing several opportunities to flip GOP-held seats.
  • Sorry, Kids, Mark Kelly Really Isn't All That Vulnerable in Arizona

There is a lot of speculation about the Republican party’s chances of taking the momentum they have going into November and doing what was once thought unthinkable for this election cycle: flipping the Senate to red. The analyses I read — and I do read a lot of them — that break down how that just might happen all count Sen. Mark Kelly (D-Ariz.) among the most vulnerable. My view from here in my native Arizona is that Kelly probably isn’t sweating too much. Last month, my friend and colleague Stephen Green gave his breakdown regarding the GOP’s Senate takeover...
  • Wake Up, Progressives: You're Lucky To Have Kyrsten Sinema

Brian Murray knows just how fierce an opponent Arizona's Sen. Kyrsten Sinema can be. The Republican strategist saw his candidate lose to Democrat Sinema in their 2012 race for the House. Calling the experience "unpleasant," Murray admits his candidate, Vernon Parker, was flawed, but "flawed candidates win all of the time. Kyrsten, however, was an absolute machine." Sinema, along with fellow centrist Democrat Sen. Joe Manchin of West Virginia, has recently become the epicenter of American politics largely because she insists on siding with the interests of her constituents instead of the demands of her party. Over the past few...

Arizona Republican Sen. Martha McSally remains confident Democrats supporting challenger Mark Kelly won't flip her Senate seat. Speaking with Fox News on Monday evening, the incumbent said that the only poll that matters in the race is Election Day. Kelly, a former NASA astronaut, has been leading McSally for the past couple of months.

Guest Piece by America’s History Teacher, Larry Schweikart Confession: I rarely watch conservative, or so-called conservative, news sites. You can get some information that way, but I find it much more instructive to watch the reactions of liberals to the stories of the day. That is an instant indicator of who is winning and losing. For example, if the Washington Post says “Trump must change tone or face loss,” you know that Trump’s tone is deadly effective. Or, if Politico headlines “Some Senator Say McConnell Moving Too Fast on Barrett Nomination,” you know that Yertle is moving at light speed...

Famed U.S. astronaut Buzz Aldrin appeared to endorse Sen. Martha McSally, R-Ariz., in her race against retired astronaut Mark Kelly, a Democrat. "Martha, check six - Mark? Buzz - over 100 jet hours in Arizona," the 90-year-old wrote on Twitter on Saturday. "12 o’clock is straight ahead. 6 o’clock is behind. Fighter pilots understand what 'check six' means in FTR lingo talk. Martha, wave as you move ahead past Mark, to 12 o’clock, and you win for Arizona!"

Two polls examining the Senate race in Arizona show Sen. Martha McSally (R-AZ) taking the lead from Democrat challenger Mark Kelly (D) — a significant shift, as Kelly has led the incumbent in a barrage of polls in recent months. A Susquehanna Polling and Research survey released Friday showed McSally overtaking Kelly in the Grand Canyon State, garnering 50 percent to Kelly’s 47 percent. That represents a six-point bounce for McSally, who trailed Kelly by four percent (44 percent to Kelly’s 48 percent) in a September 25 poll. The survey, taken October 19-22 among 500 likely general election voters, has...

A campaign spokesman for Arizona Democratic Senate candidate Mark Kelly apologized Thursday for a tweet he wrote just before joining the campaign that called police “worthless f–ing pigs.” T.J. L’Heureux, Mr. Kelly’s deputy press secretary, called police “worthless f–ing pigs” in response to a video that showed Chicago police clashing with protesters in August. He joined Mr. Kelly’s campaign one week later. The Washington Free Beacon first reported the tweet Thursday morning, prompting Mr. L’Heureux to delete the tweet and lock his account. ... Sen. Arizona Republican Senate candidate Sen. Martha McSally has enlisted former United Nations Ambassador Nikki Haley, one of the Republican Party's rising stars, to help fend off a challenge from Democrat Mark Kelly. McSally, who was appointed by Gov. Doug Ducey after she lost a different seat to Democratic Sen. Kyrsten Sinema, is now in a tight race against Kelly, the astronaut husband of former Rep. Gabrielle Giffords. She has attempted to rally voters to her side by arguing that Kelly has problematic business ties to China, a claim that Haley echoed Monday while stumping at an event in Scottsdale.

There's a 53-47 Republican edge right now [in the Senate], but that may not last for very long after the election," McCarthy told Fox News’s Bill Hemmer, noting that Arizona’s Senate election is a special election. The winner of the McSally-Kelly race will serve out the term of the late Sen. John McCain, who died in August 2018 after being reelected two years earlier. McSally was appointed to the Senate by Arizona Republican Gov. Doug Ducey at the start of 2019 after former GOP Sen. John Kyl took McCain's place and served out the remainder of 2018 before resigning. “If...

Sen. Martha McSally, R-Ariz., introduced a resolution Thursday calling on China to repay U.S. bondholders more than $1.6 trillion of sovereign debt, including interest, that pre-dates the country's Communist government. The measure is co-sponsored by Sen. Marsha Blackburn, R.-Tenn, and a House measure led by Rep. Mark Green, R-Tenn. is forthcoming. Resolutions lack the force of law held by a bill, though they reflect the will of lawmakers. “China has repeatedly failed to honor its obligations to America, taking American families’ money and jobs,” McSally said. “Well, the abuse ends here. We are holding China accountable for their debt and...

The Lincoln Project, a Republican super PAC, in a new ad slammed some of President Trump’s top GOP allies in the Senate, accusing a slate of Republican lawmakers of “cowardice” and “betrayal.” The ad, released Wednesday, states, “Someday soon, the time of Trump will pass. This circus of incompetence, corruption and cruelty will end. When it does, the men and women in Trump’s Republican Party will come to you, telling you they can repair the damage he’s done. The "Never Trump" coalition of Republicans fighting to oust President Trump from the White House is making a risky play, just as the president's lackluster poll numbers are raising concerns on the right -- they're going after Republican senators too. PHOENIX – The federal government could give Americans $4,000 apiece to take a vacation if U.S. Sen. Martha McSally’s proposal takes off. McSally (R-Ariz.) introduced the bill, the American TRIP Act, on Monday, the day before President Donald Trump visits Yuma and Phoenix. The legislation is meant to act as an incentive to travel domestically. Couples would start at $8,000 in vacation tax credits and receive $500 for each child who is a dependent. Credits would apply for 2020, 2021 and 2022. “It will also encourage Americans to safely get out of their homes and discover or rediscover Arizona along...
