BANGOR, Maine — Waterfront Concerts promoter Alex Gray said Sunday that he doesn’t plan to call off Ted Nugent’s Bangor performance despite remarks from two city councilors that the controversial rock star shouldn’t be allowed to play in the city. Last week, Councilor Charlie Longo emailed a letter to Gray saying that the concert series shouldn’t allow Nugent to perform because of comments he made during a National Rifle Association convention in St. Louis. Longo later posted the letter to his website.

In Sagadahoc Superior Court on Thursday afternoon, Justice Thomas Delahanty sentenced Palesky, 66, of Topsham, to 16 months in jail on the charge of theft by misapplication. After his 6-year-old son started attending school in Portland this fall, David Hilton discovered that being a parent these days means sorting through all the papers that get stuffed into children's backpacks at school. For Hilton, though, the problem is not the quantity but the content. Some of the papers come from the Boy Scouts of America, a group that prohibits openly gay men from participating. Hilton said the practice gives the impression that the school department endorses a discriminatory organization, and he is lobbying the School Committee to stop it.
