    A Las Vegas police officer was killed Thursday morning after an exchange of gunfire. The officer, Truong Thai, 49, was pronounced deceased at Sunrise Hospital and Medical Center, Sheriff Joe Lombardo said at a news conference. The shooting took place near the 800 block of East Flamingo Road. The suspect, Tyson Hampton, 24, was taken into custody near East Desert Inn Road and South Eastern Avenue, Lombardo said.     Las Vegas police Monday outlined a handful of missteps, including miscommunication from the U.S. Marshals Office, that led up to the moment two Metro officers shot and killed an unarmed fugitive holding a cell phone in front of a west valley home on New Year's Eve. Eighteen minutes before the shooting, Metro knew nothing about the fugitive, Keith Childress.
