A Las Vegas police officer was killed Thursday morning after an exchange of gunfire.
The officer, Truong Thai, 49, was pronounced deceased at Sunrise Hospital and Medical Center, Sheriff Joe Lombardo said at a news conference.
The shooting took place near the 800 block of East Flamingo Road.
The suspect, Tyson Hampton, 24, was taken into custody near East Desert Inn Road and South Eastern Avenue, Lombardo said.
The Clark County office issued a statement:
“Clark County joins with the entire community in mourning the death of Officer Truong Thai, following his tragic death in the line of duty while serving and protecting others. Our hearts are with his family, friends, and the entire LVMPD force.”

Not surprised, I’ve posted a lot lately about the crime and homelessness we witnessed on vacation there a week or 2 ago.
I saw assault, disorderly conducts, public threats of violence with a weapon, indecent exposure and public drunkenness and never a whiff of police being called. All of this in broad daylight on open city streets. Just my opinion large parts of that city are almost lawless.
Me: “Nice Sig ya got there officer. Is that a 226 or a 229?”
Cop: “I don’t rightly know.”
Me: Is it chambered in 9mm or .40 Smith and Wesson?”
Cop: “I dunno.”
Looks like such a good boy, prolly really funny, going to school in the fall, diddin do nuffins...
Went to church, sang in the choir, helped at the food kitchen...

I worked for the government and had Diversity horsehockey forced down my throat on a daily basis. It is killing our country.

There are quite a rew large city or county PD’s that are strongly ‘anti gun culture’ about their members. Chicago PD among them. The history is interesting. For organized crime the CPD was off limits by an informal but biding agreement. The CPD would some times arrest outfit guys and there was even the occasional car chase but no rough stuff in either direction. Street criminals 50 + years ago were not nearly as well armed as today and the CPD used their sidearms to pistol whip resisters more than ever firing them. CPD while institutionally corrupt had a ‘one officer, one riot’ elan about meting out street justice. Hence forearm skills were considered almost irrelevant. I suspect many big cities were like that. Of course, in San Francisco Nan’s home town of Baltimore the cops were notorious for running in the opposite direction of trouble.
It’s everywhere, and it’s bunk.
We typically see at least one a day here.
