According to June’s LPS Mortgage Monitor, 6.68% of mortgages were delinquent in June, up from 6.08% in May. The increase was in short term delinquencies, and most of this increase was seasonal (delinquencies usually increase in June). 2.93% of mortgages were in the foreclosure process, down from 4.09% in June 2012. 9.61% of mortgages were delinquent or in foreclosure. • 1,983,000 properties that are 30 or more days, and less than 90 days past due, but not in foreclosure. • 1,345,000 properties that are 90 or more days delinquent, but not in foreclosure. • 1,458,000 loans in foreclosure process. Lender Processing Services today released its latest LPS Home Price Index (HPI) report, based on April 2013 residential real estate transactions. Home prices rose 1.5% from March to April and 8.1% Year over Year (YoY). Where did home prices rise the fastest? 9 of the 10 faster rising metro areas are in California (and Bend OR is really California El Norte). San Francisco is the most expensive metro area on the list. Do we really need to have conforming loan limits set high for San Francisco (or California)? Compare this list with Bloomberg’s “Bubble List” where rising home prices are...
  • US Homeownership Falls (Again) Despite Near Record Affordability (And Fed Craziness)

The US Census Bureau reported earlier today that the US home ownership rates in the first quarter of 2013 dropped by another 0.4% to a fresh 18 years low, or 65% – the lowest since 1995. This is somewhat surprising given the relative affordability of housing. And The Fed’s unprecedented purchase of Treasuries and Agency MBS in an attempt to stimulate the housing market. And according to Loan Performance, house prices have really been humming since early 2012. Shortly, we will hear the clamor for “getting on the bandwagon” with low down payment mortgages. Like Navy Federal Credit Union. Could...
  • Bombshell Admission of Failed Securitization Process in American Home Mortgage Servicing/LPS Lawsuit

Wow, Jones Day just created a huge mess for its client and banks generally if anyone is alert enough to act on it. The lawsuit in question is American Home Mortgage Servicing Inc. v Lender Processing Services. It hasn’t gotten all that much attention (unless you are on the LPS deathwatch beat) because to most, it looks like yet another beauty contest between Cinderella’s two ugly sisters. AHMSI is a servicer (the successor to Option One, and it may also still have some Ameriquest servicing). AHMSI is mad at LPS because LPS was supposed to prepare certain types of documentation...
  • MicroRNA in TLR signaling and endotoxin tolerance

Abstract Toll-like receptors (TLRs) in innate immune cells are the prime cellular sensors for microbial components. TLR activation leads to the production of proinflammatory mediators and thus TLR signaling must be properly regulated by various mechanisms to maintain homeostasis. TLR4-ligand lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-induced tolerance or cross-tolerance is one such mechanism, and it plays an important role in innate immunity. Tolerance is established and sustained by the activity of the microRNA miR-146a, which is known to target key elements of the myeloid differentiation factor 88 (MyD88) signaling pathway, including IL-1 receptor-associated kinase (IRAK1), IRAK2 and tumor-necrosis factor (TNF) receptor-associated factor 6 (TRAF6)....
  • U.S. probing foreclosure processing firms

The more banks foreclosed on homes, the more a little-known company in Florida called Lender Processing Services saw its revenue and stock price soar. For a fee, the Jacksonville company would locate and assemble the documents necessary for a lender to foreclose on a borrower who defaulted on a mortgage. Working on behalf of the biggest names in the industry, including J.P. Morgan Chase, Bank of America and Citigroup, LPS says it handles more than half of all foreclosures in the country. Now, amid reports of shoddy and possibly fraudulent paperwork, LPS as well as a handful of other document...
  • ACLU pushes for parent awareness of military opt-out option

The American Civil Liberties Union of Nebraska wants to make sure parents know they can keep their high school students' records from military recruiters - if they wish. A portion of the federal No Child Left Behind law requires that schools provide the names, addresses and phone numbers of juniors and seniors to all branches of the military, although it allows parents to "opt out." "Consent is assumed unless a parent takes affirmative steps," said Amy Miller. legal director of ACLU Nebraska. The problem: Some parents say they didn't realize they had the option to refuse release of the information....

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - That dusty stack of records in your parents' basement? They're not as retro as you might think. Many record collectors, DJs and music junkies still consider vinyl to be the gold standard of recorded music — scratches, pops and all. That enduring appeal has helped Nashville's United Record Pressing, which cranks out 20,000 to 40,000 records a day, making it one of the largest — and last — vinyl record manufacturers in the country. "Folks thought we had disappeared," owner and CEO Cris Ashworth said. Started in 1962, the plant is as much a throwback as the...

Technology is changing the huge global market for record collectors. As music dealers like those immortalised in the book High Fidelity disappear, will vinyl and CD rarities survive the download revolution? Second-hand record shops are becoming almost as rare a sighting in the UK as a first edition Beatles EP. The days of shuffling into grubby backstreet stores in search of that obscure Pink Fairies seven-inch are on their way out as dealers succumb to the march of online auction sites and MP3s. CURRENT RARITIES U2's Trabant car: £6,000 Queen 12" single: £10,000 Withdrawn Nirvana CD: £500 Led Zeppelin seven-inch:...
