Light weight training benefits include an increase in cardiovascular involvement and a decrease in injury risk. Low-load workouts are also more convenient and less expensive. Learning more about this type of resistance exercise will help you reach your health goals. Most people think you need to lift heavy weights to see results. Yet you can gain the same amount of muscle mass by lifting light weights, according to a December 2017 review in the Journal of Strength and Conditioning Research. These researchers also showed that you can gain the same amount of isometric strength. This type of strength can be useful...

Sen. Elizabeth Warren can't win a presidential popularity contest in her home state of Massachusetts. The liberal Democrat got third place in a survey from Emerson College released Sunday. Sen. Bernie Sanders, I-Vt., leads the Democratic primary field with 26% of the vote, followed by former Vice President Joe Biden at 23%. Warren follows them with 14% of the vote, and is closely tailed by Pete Buttigieg, mayor of South Bend, Ind., at 11%, former Texas Congressman Beto O’Rourke at 8%, and California Sen. Kamala Harris at 7%. The remaining 5% of voters are looking for another candidate.

Katie Couric traveled to New Hampshire for an “exclusive” interview with Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton, but it amounted to little more than a three minute segment in which Couric tossed softballs about the horse race and avoided any contentious topics, such as fugitive Norman Hsu's fundraising, Clinton's evolving positions on Iraq or her parsed stand on driver's licenses for illegal aliens. “In an exclusive one-on-one interview,” Couric trumpeted, “Clinton exudes confidence.” Couric's questions to the Democratic frontrunner in the excerpt aired at the start of the CBS Evening News: Why she's launched a “more aggressive” campaign, how does she...

Study Says Women Who Think Drinks Were Spiked Were Just Drunk February 20, 2007 Research Summary In a study by U.K. researchers, not one of 75 women who thought their drinks were spiked with date-rape drugs like GHB, ketamine or Rohypnol tested positive for the drugs, the Evening Standard reported Feb. 17. The yearlong study from doctors at Wrexham Maelor Hospital concluded that the women who though they had been incapacitated by drugs being added to their drinks more likely were just victims of their own binge drinking. Two-thirds of the study group had been drinking heavily, while one in...

In a surprise announcement that shocked the economics community, President Bush named Robert McCleskey, his personal tax accountant, to succeed Alan Greenspan. McCleskey, who has little or no track record in the area of monetary policy, will now face the rigors of a grueling confirmation process. Given the defining nature of the appointment and the challenges of filling Greenspan's legendary shoes, some observers were surprised the President chose McCleskey, a man who has never written on anything vaguely related to the Federal Reserve or monetary issues. When asked about why he chose McCleskey the President responded aggressively. "He's a heckuva...

Americans weigh down cruise ship 07dec04 DOZENS of seats on the world's most luxurious cruise liner have collapsed under the weight of obese American passengers. The chairs -- on the Queen Mary 2 -- are being replaced or repaired. The seating is mainly in the bar and restaurant areas. Alstom Chantiers, the French company that provided the liner with all its fixtures and fittings, claimed many of the chairs had buckled under the weight of larger passengers. "There are some things that need to be changed or replaced," said a spokesman. "For instance, there are some problems with the chairs...
