OAKLAND – A California Highway Patrol officer struck by a car whose driver left the scene died yesterday morning. Officer Brent Clearman, 33, a decorated Marine sharpshooter and Iraq war veteran, was investigating an accident Saturday night on an Interstate 880 on-ramp when he was struck by a Buick LeSabre. The driver, who could face charges of felony hit-and-run, manslaughter or homicide, remained at large. Clearman served as a CHP firearms instructor and was described as a leader among his peers.
