OAKLAND A California Highway Patrol officer struck by a car whose driver left the scene died yesterday morning.
Officer Brent Clearman, 33, a decorated Marine sharpshooter and Iraq war veteran, was investigating an accident Saturday night on an Interstate 880 on-ramp when he was struck by a Buick LeSabre.
The driver, who could face charges of felony hit-and-run, manslaughter or homicide, remained at large.
Clearman served as a CHP firearms instructor and was described as a leader among his peers. He joined a force of 200 CHP officers in New Orleans last year to help with Hurricane Katrina disaster relief.
Anyone vouched for where all the Kennedys were yet?

Officials are searching for a severely damaged late '90s champagne color Buick LaSabre in connection with Clearman's death. Debris from the scene led investigators to believe that the Buick hood emblem is missing, and driver's side grill is damaged.
Oakland police officers late Sunday found a second car, a 2000 Pontiac Grand Am, that was carjacked just before the accident, said CHP Officer Mike Wright. Police don't know if the Grand Am is linked to the officer's death, but CHP investigators were questioning the driver, who was captured after a short foot chase.
Clearman, Wright said, was a great officer and a good match for the CHP. Before coming to the CHP in October 2004, he served in the Marines for 12 years.
The CHP Administration has fought putting Video cameras in the Units. At last report, there were maybe two or three cameras per office.
Rest in peace.
I hope the perp is caught and severely punished.
