A veteran lawyer in the Philadelphia District Attorney’s Office has been disbarred in the region’s federal courts after a panel of judges concluded he “lied repeatedly” while seeking to overturn the death sentence of a man who killed an East Mount Airy couple in their home and left their infant daughter inside to die. ---SNIP--- In the disciplinary opinion filed earlier this year, the three-judge panel criticized George’s conduct throughout the case, saying he “repeatedly lied” to Goldberg and that his efforts nearly undercut the integrity of a duly-imposed jury verdict. And in an unusually pointed fashion, they ascribed a...

Former British senior army officer Lord David Richards has told UK newspaper The Independent that Ukraine cannot win its war with Russia without NATO military support and should instead negotiate peace terms with Moscow. Speaking to The Independent’s “World of Trouble” podcast, the “five star” ranked former Chief of Defence Staff who led NATO forces in Afghanistan, said: “What we have done in the case of Ukraine is encourage Ukraine to fight, but not given them the means to win.” The former commando added that even with the right resources, Ukraine “would not win” as “they haven’t got the manpower.”...

Women are rising in western society in all spheres of life. In the picture above North Melbourne defender and co-vice captian Nicole "Flash" Bresnehan points her fellow players to move forward attacking the goal. If the rise in women means a rise in misandry, then men should be very very concerned. But if it means better sharing and caring, we will all be better off. And when it means that football is becoming more beautiful, more collaborative and more impassioned, then I love seeing the shared leadership of women like Flash.

84 years ago today, Bob Dylan was born. At his Nobel Prize winning best, from 1961 to 1966, he challenged us to rethink everything with everything he wrote. Donald Trump, born about 5 years after Dylan, in 1946, looks to me like he is just entering into a period of his Dylanesque best. Trump forces us to revealuate this modern world all the time. Bob Dylan mastered and elevated American music twice to great literature in a few short years, first as a folkie but then as a great rock n roller. Potus 45 surprised everyone to come down a...

In a breakthrough for marine science, researchers have recorded the largest predation event ever observed. Captured off Norway’s coast, this monumental feeding frenzy saw around 2.5 million Atlantic cod devouring more than 10 million capelin within a matter of hours. According to Oceanographic, this rare predation was documented by a team of Norwegian and MIT scientists, who used advanced underwater acoustic technology, specifically the Ocean Acoustic Waveguide Remote Sensing (OAWRS) system. “This is happening over a monstrous scale,” explained MIT ocean engineer Nicholas Makris. By sending sound waves that reflect off fish, the team created a real-time map of the...

Retail stores are fleeing San Francisco in droves as the California city collapses under the weight of rampant crime and theft. And rather than deal with the crime problem, city leaders instead want to punish the stores trying to leave. The so-called “Grocery Protection Act,” introduced by city Board of Supervisors member Dean Preston (Democratic Socialist), says stores that try to leave San Francisco would have to provide the city with six months’ notice, allowing city leaders time to look for a replacement retail tenant. This bill was introduced not long after Whole Foods Market closed down its flagship San...

The opening ceremonies of the Paris Olympics, which featured a transgender parody of the Last Supper while highlighting a controversial Muslim performer, have been branded as a national “suicide” by a former French government cabinet member. While the Olympics were supposedly set to mark a political truce in France, which remains in limbo following President Emmanuel Macron’s snap elections that left the country without an actual government, the deeply divided country saw rage and elation — depending on political affiliation — over the opening ceremonies of the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris on Saturday evening.

Protests erupted across the country against the federal carbon tax on Monday — the same day it rose by 23 per cent — while Canada's only Liberal provincial leader pressed for an emergency meeting to discuss alternative ways to cut emissions. In a letter to Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, Newfoundland and Labrador Premier Andrew Furey called for an emergency meeting of leaders throughout Canada, arguing the program is too costly for his province and doesn't work as intended. Instead, Furey is urging the federal government to make "bold investments" in infrastructure and incentives akin to the U.S. Inflation Reduction Act...

The federal judge overseeing the election conspiracy case against Donald Trump has agreed with his defense on a looser version of a protective order for evidence in the case Chutkan rejected prosecutors’ broader protective order proposal that sought to prevent the public airing of all evidence they hand over to Trump’s defense as they prepare for trial. She instead seemed poised to impose a more limited protective order that would bar the public release only of materials deemed “sensitive,” such as grand jury materials.
