Previously unseen video footage has been helping scientists learn more about the fate of the airship. Officials closed down access to the Naval Air Engineering Center in Lakehurst, N.J., shutting a gate to the joint military base after "multiple incidents" occurred there Monday morning. The base says the 87th Security Forces Squadron responded to simultaneous incidents around 9:30 a.m. Monday. In a statement, the base said no personnel were in danger, and a spokesman told the AP that no shots were fired, though officials declined to describe what the incidents were. The lockdown lasted an hour and kept traffic from getting into or out of the base.

But he can recall in vivid detail the day 70 years ago when he watched the Hindenburg erupt into a fireball.
