At least 21 people were shot, one of them fatally, at a Juneteenth celebration in gun-controlled Illinois on Sunday morning around 12:30 a.m. CNN reported the shooting occurred “in a parking lot in Willowbrook, about 21 miles west of Chicago.” FOX 32 pointed out two of the wounded remain in critical condition. FOX News noted DuPage County Sheriff’s Deputy Chief Eric Swanson indicated that deputies patrolling the area near the parking lot heard the gunshots and responded. Swanson said, “The motive behind this incident is unclear and this is still an active investigation.”

The surge in gun crimes in Minneapolis is claiming Black victims at a vastly disproportionate rate to the city's demographics.Last year, police counted one Black shooting victim for every 150 Black residents in Minneapolis, compared to one white victim for every 3,768 white residents, according to data presented to the City Council this week. White people comprise about 60% of Minneapolis' population, versus 19% Black or African people, according to census data. The weekend was less violent than the one prior, as a winter storm dumped nearly a foot of snow over the city Saturday and Sunday. Over 3,100 people have been shot in Mayor Lori Lightfoot’s (D) Chicago thus far in 2020. The Chicago Tribune reports the exact number of shooting victims at 3,132, and that includes the fatally wounded as well as those who survived. The Tribune reports the number of homicides January 1, 2020, through September 28, 2020, at 576, CNN reported fewer than 500 for all of 2019.

Baltimore Police Officer Edward Nero was found not guilty of all charges by a judge Monday morning for his role in the arrest of Freddie Gray. Nero, 30, had been charged with second-degree assault, reckless endangerment and two counts of misconduct in office, all related to his role in Gray's initial detention and arrest on April 12, 2015.

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – Three people were hurt Saturday night after a triple shooting in north Minneapolis, according to police. Minneapolis Police were called at about 10 p.m. on a report of shots fired near the area of Newton and Hillside on the city’s north side. When officers arrived, they found three men who had been injured from gunshot wounds. A somber event turned grim on Tuesday when a gunman opened fire on the memorial service of slain teen Jovany Diaz. Around 2:20 p.m. a man was heard shouting at the corner of Kildare and Hirsch in West Humboldt Park. The man, who had been at Diaz's memorial just before, then fired two shots into the air, The Sun-Times reports. A local rapper and a 35-year-old man are accused of beating a man to death because he accidentally scratched the rapper’s car. Edward Brown and Steven Fox, 26, a rapper known as “Sincere the Realist,” sent the 46-year-old victim into coma and eventually his death, according to prosecutors and police reports.
