The vote in the U.S. House is expected Sunday. In a last minute scramble, some angry Mid-South residents are making their voices heard. They did it during a tea party protest Saturday in Millington. “Kill the bill! Kill the bill!” shouted protestors, holding signs, waving flags, and chanting. About 50 people lined Highway 51, getting the attention of passing cars. “My health, my choice!” protestors shouted. The tea party rally was held right outside...

Well lookie here. Rumor is, two retiring Tennessee Democrats who suddenly will vote for ObamaCARE are getting cushy government jobs after they retire from the House. According to Human Events, Rep. Bart Gordon (D-Tenn.) has been promised the job of NASA administrator in exchange for his vote, and Rep. John Tanner (D-Tenn.), another retiring Democrat, has been promised an appointment as U.S. Ambassador to NATO in exchange for his vote! Buying the Blue Dog Democrats? Both voted against passage of the House bill back in November.

Democratic retirements are beginning to mount, after the announcement Monday that Rep. Bart Gordon (D-Tenn.) will not seek reelection next year. Gordon said in a statement that, after a quarter-century in Congress, it’s time to retire. “Every decision I have made in Congress has been with their best interests in mind,” he said. “I hope the people here at home feel that I have served them as well as their good advice and views have served me. “When I was elected, I was the youngest member of the Tennessee congressional delegation; now, I’m one of the oldest. In fact, I...

Tennessee Rep. John Tanner’s decision to step down at the end of his term has Democrats worried that a trickle of retirements will turn into a flood. Democrats won their majority in 2006 — and built on it in 2008 — in large part by running conservative Democrats in Republican-leaning districts. But with Rep. Dennis Moore (D-Kan.) and Tanner now heading for the exits, there’s growing concern that the party’s strategy may be unraveling just in time for 2010. “It’s the beginning of an avalanche on our side,” one Democratic strategist said. “Morale is bad, and we’re seeing guys in...

SEIU union workers delivered a pro-healthcare bill petition to Bluedog Congressman John Tanner's office in Union City, TN. Upon arrival, the union workers were greeted by the staff and were told by staff members that they "couldn't imagine Congressman Tanner voting against the Healthcare Bill." It is also revealed in the video that Congressman Tanner's Chief of Staff is responsible for a lot of language in the bill itself. It's time to target Congressman John Tanner of Tennessee's 8th Congressional district. He is also one of the leaders of the Bluedog coalition in Congress.

The political recriminations from the cliffhanger passage of the Central American Free Trade Agreement last week are even worse than we thought. Nancy Pelosi, the House Minority Leader, is contemplating revenge against the 15 Democrats who had the nerve to vote for hemispheric growth and progress. The San Francisco Democrat called a caucus gripe session in the wake of last Wednesday's vote, and an article in the Capitol Hill newspaper Roll Call suggested that Democrats who voted yes may lose their favorite committee assignments. Our John Fund reports on OpinionJournal.com that Democratic leaders are especially mad at two Black Caucus...
