MILLINGTON, TN-- The countdown is on for a vote on health care reform in this country. The vote in the U.S. House is expected Sunday.

In a last minute scramble, some angry Mid-South residents are making their voices heard. They did it during a tea party protest Saturday in Millington.

“Kill the bill! Kill the bill!” shouted protestors, holding signs, waving flags, and chanting. About 50 people lined Highway 51, getting the attention of passing cars.

“My health, my choice!” protestors shouted.

The tea party rally was held right outside of Congressman John Tanner's office. He's a Democrat who has so far been on the fence about health reform.

Renee Salvis has heard rumors that he will vote 'yes.’

“He has betrayed us” says Salvis. “He may have other taxpayers that are giving him their opinion, but he's not listening to ours.”

Salvis says she's opposed to the health care bill.

Joe King worries the legislation will mean he can't choose his own physician.“There is supposed to be freedom still in the U.S. and I hope it exists after because she's pro-life, and believes it will expand coverage for abortions.

Sunday” says King.

Dr. Jesse Cannon is chairman of the Tipton County He's also practiced internal medicine for the last 30 years.

“We've seen this so-called universal healthcare approach with TennCare in Tennessee and we've seen the failures.”Cannon says he's concerned the bill will put some doctors out of business.

Republican Party “The result of this is going to be that you got physicians that are semi-retired or others that are volunteering and with all the regulations that they're going to put in this bill, they are going to leave in droves in primary care” says Cannon.

The Church Health Center in Memphis is the largest faith-based group in the country that provides care to un-insured working people. They have about 36,000 patient visits each year at their medical clinic.

A rep with the group says health care in America is broken, but they are not taking a stance on this bill.
