Would you feel uneasy flying on a plane built in 1974? Harold Wilson was enjoying his second stint in Number 10, the band Queen was in its pomp, man’s first small step on the surface of the moon was still relatively fresh in the memory. And 1974 was also the year that a Boeing 737-200, with the serial number 20836, made its maiden flight for Transavia Airlines, based in the Netherlands. Forty-eight years on, Harold Wilson has shuffled off this mortal coil, as has Freddie, while Nasa is hoping to start a colony on Mars. But 20836 is still going...

On Monday’s broadcast of the Fox News Channel’s “Special Report,” Energy Secretary Jennifer Granholm responded to concerns on whether China will meet its climate goals by stating that the U.S. and its allies need to ensure there is pressure on China and that China doesn’t “want to be shamed.” Granholm said, [relevant remarks begin around 3:50] “[T]he whole world is surrounding this. I mean, every country that has signed onto the agreement to get to net-zero carbon pollution by 2050, we’re all surrounding, and China, they want to be seen as a leader. They don’t want to be shamed. But...

Recently, a friend told me that she’s never seen Forrest Gump before—which is a crime in my house. So I made her watch the movie with me (spoilers ahead). In light of recent events, this movie has taken on a new meaning for me. Though Forrest and Jenny started “like peas and carrots,” each of them soon got swept up by a different one of America’s 20th-century cultural currents. Forrest’s path was classically American: going to college, playing football, serving his country, starting his own business, and going to church. Jenny, on the other hand, dabbles in counterculture: dropping out...

Conservative radio host — and, recently, ABC News political contributor — Laura Ingraham had some harsh words for national tea party groups that ignored long-shot challenger Dave Brat, the Virginia GOP candidate who unseated House Majority Leader Eric Cantor (R-VA) in an historic upset. Ingraham singled out Jenny Beth Martin, co-founder and leader of the Tea Party Patriots, for shunning Brat in favor of more marquee races. In an article by the Washington Post’s Ben Terris, Martin fired back.

Fla., A Florida woman with a phone number made famous by pop band Tommy Tutone said she obtained the number on purpose and receives hundreds of calls each week. "Just like everybody else we wanted to know what would happen if you called that number," Routt said. She said she called the phone company and concocted a story to...

I'm really excited about the Tea Party Revolution that is happening all over the country in response to President Obamas Porkulus Economic Bill and Mortgage Bailout. This is exactly the sort of activism that needs to happen to get the message out that half the country is balking at the redistribution of wealth that is taking place in our country. Last week as the president signed Porkulus a protest took place on the steps of the capitol in Denver. This event was organized by some of the best rally organizers in the state, and should be a model for other...

You don't even have to get it from the bathroom stall. Remember that At&T or Sprint commercial from the late 1990s, when a woman (possibly by the name of Jenny) gushes about having the famous telephone number 867-5309? She fell in love with the digits after hearing Tommy Tutone's famous song "8675309 (Jenny)" about a man in love with a woman whose number he found in a bathroom stall. That phone number just doesn't stop getting popular. In the (201) area code area of New Jersey, a DJ who specifically requested that telephone number is now auctioning it off on eBay...

DALLAS - One of the most famously flawed stamps in U.S. history sold for $825,000 to a New York man who bought it slightly cheaper than the record price another "Inverted Jenny" copy fetched at auction last month. The rare 1918 24-cent stamp, depicting an upside-down Curtis JN-4 biplane known as "Jenny," was sold privately this week to a Wall Street executive who did not want to be identified. Heritage Auction Galleries president Greg Rohan, who brokered the sale, said the buyer is the same collector who lost an auction last month in which another "Inverted Jenny" sold for $977,500....

Jenny McCarthy vividly remembers the harrowing realization three years ago that her son Evan, now 5, had autism. "It started with hand flapping," McCarthy, 34, told Oprah Winfrey on Tuesday's show. There were other telltale indications in her child's behavior, but as McCarthy said, "You only look for the good signs." Then came the day when Evan suffered a seizure, which doctors – once she got him to the hospital – blamed on a fever. Three weeks later, however, Evan got "a stoned look on his face" while McCarthy and the boy were visiting her parents. This was another seizure,...

Jenny, they've got your number in a legal battle ASSOCIATED PRESS May 20, 2007 LINCOLN, R.I. – One-hit wonder Tommy Tutone made the phone number 867-5309 famous in the band's 1982 hit single, which uses the digits over and over in its catchy refrain. Now, a Rhode Island company and a national firm are battling over the right to use the number, which doesn't reach the “Jenny” that Tutone sings about but could find callers a decent plumber. Two years ago, Gem Plumbing & Heating of Lincoln, R.I., trademarked the phone number from the song, which reached No. 4 on...

France said a formerly terrorist-free Iraq has seen as "explosion" of terrorism since the war, as the United States rallied support for a rejigged UN resolution to bolster reconstruction efforts. And while Iraq's interim government was to take a major bow on the international stage at the United Nations, the diplomatic flurry made little or no impression on the ground in Iraq where and Americans and Iraqis continue to die on a daily basis. Three US soldiers were killed in a span of hours Wednesday as the Americans pressed their drive to root out resistance to their nearly six-month-old occupation....
