It hasn't been an easy road for several GOP 7th Congressional candidates, but some remain upbeat and even hopeful about their chances in Tuesday's primary. Three of the five "fringe" Republican candidates – Randal Wallace, Jim Mader and Katherine Jenerette – were among those who spoke at the Elephant Stampede, held Saturday at the Carolina Forest Recreation Center and hosted by the Myrtle Beach Republican Women's group. While the event featured several of the "big four" GOP contenders (Andre Bauer, Tom Rice, Jay Jordan and Chad Prosser), Wallace, Mader and Jenerette had a chance to speak, too, unlike some events...

A Time Machine look back to a FreeRepublic Old Thread from 2001 Will The Real Islam Please Stand Up? Stop telling me about Islam. Shouldn't the media and talk shows hosts really be instructing 'wayward' Muslims and their followers who have 'hijacked' Islam about the true meaning of the Koran and Islam. I really don't care about their religion. Tell them about their religion! Just tell the Muslims who have their Koran and the Prophets' message all wrong that they have it backwards and inside out. They seem to be the ones who need to understand the 'true'...

Question: Just heard about black Republican candidate Tim Scott in South Carolina's first district. Is he a Tea Party, true conservative? Would consider giving to his campaign. Any info would be appreciated.

...the electorate is in a unique mood. Haley is viewed as the ultimate anti-good-ole-boys candidate, the outsider who shares the values of the Tea Party. Unfortunately, unsubstantiated and unproven charges of marital infidelity hit the campaign like a ton of bricks in the waning days of the race. One source of the charges in particular could not prove his allegations, despite his insistence he had 'documentation.' That proved to be false. The other accuser worked for the Bauer campaign. He has no proof except his own statement that he had 'an inappropriate physical relationship' with Haley at some point in...

It looks like not even two scandalous allegations of extramarital affairs can stop Sarah Palin's candidate, Nikki Haley, in the Republican primary for governor of South Carolina. Haley holds a 20-point lead over Rep. Gresham Barrett one day before the vote. According to North Carolina-based polling firm Public Policy Polling, Haley has emerged unscathed from recent lascivious rumors simply because voters don't believe the gossip. "Only 13 percent of voters believe the allegations levied against her, and 54 percent of people just don't believe the rumors at all," said PPP director Tom Jensen. "The view is, if you can't prove...

POSTED ON JUNE 4, 2010, AT 3:50 PM Nikki Haley greets a supporter. Photo: Nikkihaley.com SEE ALL 4 PHOTOS Best Opinion: Palmetto State Politics, Washington Monthly, Riehl World View Though she still holds a double-digit lead in the polls, Nikki Haley's bid for South Carolina's Republican governorship has grown increasingly fraught. Fresh accusations about her infidelity have emerged from political lobbyist Larry Marchant — which, like the earlier claims, the Tea Party-endorsed Haley has denied — and senior Republican senator Jake Dodds stirred up a racial storm yesterday by labeling the candidate, who is of Indian descent, a "raghead" on...

You don't know what ugly politics is unless you go to South Carolina. Sure, they play dirty in Chicago, and everything will be thrown at you in New Orleans and Boston. But South Carolina plays politics like a feeding frenzy at a pig sty. For those of you that don't know, Nikki Haley is the leading candidate for the Republican nomination for Governor of South Carolina. The old boy Republican establishment really, really hates this fact. Haley ran as an outsider in a state that is as old fashioned as any...and shocked the world. As a member of the state...

Could a blogger’s claim of an affair with a GOP gubernatorial frontrunner end up being a non-factor? Hilton Head Island, S.C. — Three weeks ago, South Carolina state representative Nikki Haley was one of the Republican party’s brightest rising stars: the first Indian-American GOP state legislator in the country, a reformer who demonstrated a willingness to take on her own party over accountability, and a surprise front-running gubernatorial candidate. A November victory would make her instantly a subject of presidential-ticket talk for either 2012 or 2016. Today, more than a week after a bombshell accusation of an affair that made...

A political blogger is claiming he had a "inappropriate physical relationship" with South Carolina Republican gubernatorial candidate Nikki Haley. Haley has "categorically" denied the accusation by Will Folks, a former spokesman for Gov. Mark Sanford who now blogs and has done paid public relations work for politicians – including Haley. "Several years ago, prior to my marriage, I had an inappropriate physical relationship with Nikki," Folks wrote on his site, FITSnews.com. "It is what it is, and aside from the Haley family – Michael, Nikki, Rena and Nalin – I feel no need to apologize or explain myself to anyone....

Usually a handful of ex-soldiers seeks political office every election cycle. But more than 20 Iraq and Afghanistan veterans are running this fall for Congress alone. Almost all are riding a wave of public anger at incumbents over a profligate government and dishonest Wall Street -- and a general feeling that the Democratic remedy has proven as bad as, or worse than, the GOP disease.

George Washington, a soldier's soldier - a leader with impeccable and unquestionable loyalty to the United States and its citizens - once said that "few men have virtue to withstand the highest bidder." That sums up the problem with many of our so-called leaders, from inside the Beltway to the smallest towns of California. They can be bought, swayed and led by the highest bidder or the special interest with the deepest pockets. The American soldier has protected all of the God-given gifts the United States enjoys: freedom, safety and hope. American troops have fought in mud, dirt and sand...
