BATON ROUGE - Randy Ewing is crisscrossing the state trying to persuade voters that his business and people skills, highlighted through a smooth North Louisiana drawl, can bring the state out of an economic slump.

The 59-year-old gubernatorial candidate has put his plan in writing, using his state government experience that recognizes both the good and not-so-good policies and practices of prior governors and injects his ideas. Ewing served 12 years as a senator, including four as president of the Senate. He voluntarily gave up his Senate seat to fulfill a campaign promise that he would serve no more than three terms.
