Forty United States sheriffs have arrived in Israel for courses aimed at improving US deployment against terror. Delegates are scheduled to meet explosives and intelligence experts from the police, the Shin Bet and other security forces, as well as learning about the Israeli – Palestinian conflict. Michael Brown – the chairman of the US Sheriff's union, which boasts 28,000 sheriffs nation-wide – said that the US attitude changed completely following the September 11 attacks, with the term "policing" being replaced by "internal security".

Insp.-Gen. Moshe Karadi has instructed head of police operations Cmdr. Berti Ohayun to appoint a team of senior officers to study the Russian school siege in Belsan, which claimed the lives of close to 400 innocent civilians last week. Police held an exercise two months ago during which they practiced a similar hostage takeover to the one that took place in the Russian school. During the exercise, which took place at a community center, then-police chief Insp.-Gen. Shlomo Aharonishky was also checked to see if he was in top form. Officials noted that an exercise, which involves the Insp.-Gen. is...

Translation from Hebrew to English by me:Policeman from the Judea and Samaria region were shocked yesterday when they stopped on the Schem-Ramallah road a Palestinian Taxi, and from within it exited no less then 27(!) children. The driver, a Ramallah resident, was not confused and told the policeman that he thought "there wasn't police on Saturday." The drivers license of the offending driver was taken away on the spot and he had to give a refundable fee of 1,500 shekles, to make sure he will come to court. The 27 kids were driven to their homes in 3 mini-vans that...

Two Jerusalem traffic policewomen were assaulted by a 40-year-old Palestinian in the city center Sunday afternoon during a routine id check, police said. The Palestinian assailant, who was first detained after crossing the street on a red light and then asked to produce his ID and a work permit, began beating the policewoman with a stick, while shouting in Arabic "Allah Akbar" ("God is Great"). A second policewoman who came to her help was subsequently bitten in the neck by the assailant. A back-up police unit arrived at the scene and arrested the attacker, while the two policewomen were given...
