Lawyer drops motion after brother testifies Ishmael Salahud-Din, the man accused of shooting three police officers at an apartment complex in November 2003, might have had a chance to get out of jail Friday. Until his brother took the stand to testify on his behalf. Salahud-Din has been in jail for more than a year with a bond set at $1 million. He faces multiple felony charges that include five counts of attempted capital murder. Last month, his court-appointed attorney, Mark Woerner, filed a motion to reduce that bond to give Salahud-Din a better chance at getting out of jail...

The man accused of shooting three police officers at an apartment complex in November complained to a judge today when she postponed his trial. "It’s been eight months, judge," Ishmael Salahud-Din said as he stood at the judge’s bench next to his lawyer. "I don’t see any reason for a continuance." Twenty-eighth District Court Judge Nanette Hasette told Salahud-Din, 22, there would be no more continuances in his case. She noted he had been in jail for 232 days without a trial. A court date was not set today. His attorney, Scott McCrum, and Nueces County District Attorney Carlos Valdez...

The man accused of shooting three police officers at an apartment complex in November pleaded not guilty this morning in local state court. The defendant, Ishmael Salahud-Din, sat hunched over and stared at his feet before District Judge Nanette Hassette called court into session. When he approached the judge, he entered his not-guilty plea in a soft voice. The grand jury indicted Salahud-Din, 21, last month on five counts of attempted capital murder, one count of felony escape and one count of felony possession of cocaine with the intent to distribute. He is accused of shooting the three officers when...
