Jurors today found Ishmael Salahud-Din guilty of attempted capital murder for a 2003 police shootout that injured three officers.
Salahud-Din, 23, was convicted of five counts of attempted capital murder in connection with a Nov. 16, 2003, shooting at the Park Apartments in which officers Javier Cantu, Phillip Bintliff, Israel Carrasco, Pedro Muniz and Jose "Joe" Smith came under fire.
Smith, the most seriously injured during the gunfight, was shot in the head. Bintliff was shot in the abdomen and Carrasco was shot in the left shoulder and right leg. They have all returned to regular duty.
Jurors also found Salahud-Din guilty of one count of felony escape and one count of felony possession of cocaine with intent to distribute for cocaine found in Salahud-Din's car.
Salahud-Din was arrested before the shootout when police responded to a domestic disturbance at the complex and found a bag of marijuana in his pocket. Prosecutors said Salahud-Din broke free from a patrol car and opened fire on police with a Glock .40-caliber semi-automatic pistol he got from his car.
Salhud-Din testified Wednesday that police threatened his life and orchestrated a conspiracy to frame him.
Jurors returned the verdict about 1:30 p.m. today and now will begin hearing testimony in the punishment phase of the trial.
Salahud-Din faces five to 99 years or life in prison and a fine of as much as $10,000 for each charge of attempted capital murder. He faces two to 20 years in prison and a fine of as much as $10,000 on each of the other two charges.cvbtv

The Supreme Court probably would not let us execute him because of his IQ!
"Sala Udin" is running to retain his seat in Pittsburgh city council.
Is this charmer a Black Muslim? Who somehow got a modern orthography for Saladin?
Why, that's part of the conspiracy, too!
