Hillsborough is not over! In the longest running inquest in British legal history and possibly the biggest policing cover up ever, a Coroner’s Jury found retired Police Superintendent David Duckenfield and other senior commanders responsible for the unlawful killing of 96 soccer fans. The unlawful killing finding was the key component of the 14 counts and now invites criminal manslaughter charges to be filed. That decision will be taken by Assistant Police Commissioner John Stoddart, appointed directly by Home Secretary Theresa May in 2012 to run Operation Resolve. It is the official investigation that would then refer evidence to the...
  • Metro Officers, Sheriff, & District Attorney Oppose Changes To Coroner's Inquest

This is a post I don't want to write. Unfortunately, I have to. Yesterday on the program we discussed the proposed changes in the horrendously biased coroner's inquest process here in Las Vegas. During that segment, I had the lamentable task of telling you that many police officers, the Sheriff, and even the DA all opposed the basic changes to the inquest process demanded by the public.

LAS VEGAS -- The coroner's inquest into the fatal shooting of an unarmed man by a Las Vegas police officer will continue Saturday. During the inquest Friday, Sequoia Pearce, the fiancé of 21-year-old Trevon Cole, told a jury of seven that she and Cole had tried to surrender when police stormed their northeast valley apartment. Authorities said Det. Bryan Yant, 34, shot and killed Cole when he made a sudden move during a search of Cole’s apartment the night of June 11. Yant and other officers suspected Cole was dealing marijuana from the residence. Cole was unarmed and his family...

An inquest jury has ruled that Seattle police Officer Benjamin L. Kelly believed he was in imminent danger when he fatally shot Maurice Clemmons on Dec. 1, ending a two-day manhunt that started when Clemmons ambushed four officers in Pierce County. Answering a series of questions, the six-member jury was unanimous in its finding that Kelly had reason to fear for his life when he encountered Clemmons in a South Seattle neighborhood while investigating a stolen car. The jury also determined that Clemmons ignored Kelly's orders to show his hands before he opened fire, hitting Clemmons with four of seven...

It was some years that I sat at the bar of a rural pub in southeastern England; a night in mid-winter when it was dark both outside and within, culling through piles of coins I had laid on the bar. Decimalization of British currency had occurred some years before, but the old one-shilling and two-shilling (12 pence and 24 pence, respectively) coins were still monetized, serving as 5 pence and 10 pence pieces under the new system. I was looking for those, and much to my gratification, finding many of them; even silver ones, even a few pieces dating back...

Lawyers for Mohamed al Fayed today launched an astonishing bid to force the Queen to give evidence in the Diana, Princess of Wales inquest. They called for the monarch to be "directly approached" over conversations she allegedly had with former royal butler Paul Burrell. Mr Burrell, who previously worked for the Princess, claimed after the collapse of his Old Bailey trial for theft that the monarch had once warned him of "powers at work in this country which we have no knowledge about".Mohamed al Fayed has fought a long battle over the inquest of his son, Dodi, and Diana, Princess...

NUDITY, streaking and sex in public were common practice on the cruise ship on which Brisbane woman Dianne Brimble died, the ship's former night manager has told an inquest. A naked Mrs Brimble was found dead on the floor of a cabin of the Pacific Sky less than 24 hours after she boarded the cruise liner on September 23, 2002. She died of an overdose of the date rape drug gamma-hydroxybutyrate, or fantasy, while on a holiday with family and friends. Eight Adelaide men are considered persons of interest in the case – Mark Wilhelm, Matthew Slade, Dragan Losic, Petar...
