    Last week, Maryland joined a handful of other states that allow undocumented immigrants to drive legally on state roads, to register vehicles and to buy auto insurance. That's good public policy because it not only will make the state's roads safer for everyone who uses them but also help those living in the country without legal permission achieve a measure of self-sufficiency. Thousands of residents who previously either feared getting behind the wheel at all or who risked arrest or worse for driving without a license reportedly are now lining up to take the MVA written exam and road test....

    ANNAPOLIS, Md. (ABC7) - The Maryland Senate has passed a measure that would allow illegal immigrants to obtain driver's licenses. The measure was approved in a 29-18 vote. The bill now moves to the House of Delegates for consideration. According to law enforcement sources, tthe driver who caused a fatal two-car crash in Glenn Dale Monday morning is an illegal immigrant who is also unlicensed and uninsured.

The state Division of Motor Vehicles began issuing driver’s licenses to immigrants enrolled in a federal program that defers deportation for teens and young adults who were brought to the United States illegally as children or stayed illegally after their visas expired.
