A deadly brain-eating amoeba has been confirmed in Grand Teton National Park hot springs for the first time. The lead author of the scientific paper that was published last month, said he still soaks in hot springs but uses nose plugs when he can. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Polecat Hot Springs in Grand Teton National Park is one of several in Wyoming that's tested positive for a deadly brain-eating amoeba. (Murphy Travels via YouTube) There was a time prior to 1960 when almost nothing was known about a bug called Naegleria fowleri. The microscopic single-cell organism is one of about two dozen species...

In the Republican primary, she’ll challenge incumbent Asa Hutchinson, who was elected in 2014. ... Morgan calls herself “genetically conservative” and has said, “I ride my own Harley.” On Monday, Morgan announced she would hold a meet-and-greet event later this month at the Perry County Fairgrounds. “Are Muslims invited?” asked a commenter on Facebook. Morgan’s official page responded: “This is a public event not a private business that has to adhere to federal law. Therefore...

HOT SPRINGS, Ark. — Police in Hot Springs, Arkansas, have evacuated about 20 homes after a man mistook a Civil War-era landmine for a cannonball and took it home. Police say as of about 4 p.m. Thursday that the U.S. Air Force Bomb Squad was looking for a place to explode the ordinance. Police spokesman Cpl. Kirk Zaner said a Hot Springs man dug up what he thought was a cannonball near Danville. The man put the 32-pound landmine in the back of his pickup and drove about 65 miles home. After researching pictures of Civil War-era weapons, the man...

"This is not a coffee and donut shop," Jan Morgan, owner of the Gun Cave Indoor Shooting Range in Hot Springs, Ark., wrote in an online post last month. "This is a live fire indoor shooting range ... Why would I want to rent or sell a gun and hand ammunition to someone who aligns himself with a religion that commands him to kill me?" Morgan, who says she has "read and studied" the Koran thoroughly, found "109 verses commanding hate, murder and terror against all human beings who refuse to submit or convert to Islam." ... Morgan claims that...

A 10 minute internet search turned up 15 towns named "hot Springs" from VA to CA. in addition many other states have at least one town renowned for their natural hot baths. Why are we wasting time and money on solar panels and windmills when the model for "environmentally sound" power production is under our feet?I never see this mentioned at all, but the tech is proven (see Iceland) and the risks are small, without the need for the toxic materials in PV cells. Is it because we'd want to drill at Yellowstone?

But he is not alone. His wife Mary, stepson, Steve, and two step-grandchildren will enter the Church with him at the Easter Vigil Mass at St. John the Baptist Church in Hot Springs. His daughter-in-law, Kristy, is also returning to the faith after being away for nearly 15 years. Nearly half of the packed meeting room at the station were there to voice their opposition to the organization’s mission, while the other half voiced staunch support. Researchers have found the world's northernmost underwater hot springs, spouting out of the seabed in the otherwise chilly waters of the Norwegian Sea. It's a veritable oasis featuring tropical-like coral and unusual plant life. The underwater hot springs were found at a depth of 600 meters on the so-called "Mohnsryggen" north of the Arctic island of Jan Mayen, where Norway maintains a weather station and military presence. Researchers made the discovery during an international expedition this summer. The researchers were assisted by techological equipment on board the research vessel GO Sars and the remote-controlled mini-submarine Bathysaurus. Their eyes widened when...

Saturday morning began as a beautiful Arkansas morning, with the robins searching for worms, the cardinals at the bird feeder, the thrush splashing in the water and all the other birds singing in the trees. Then, suddenly, the skies darkened and the air felt oppressive and evil - I thought a storm was moving in so I began to shut all the windows I had opened earlier to let in the fresh breezes. Oddly, the rain never came until near sundown, when a refreshing shower seemed to clear the air of all the pollutions. This morning I see what had...

(CBS) For years, CBS News Correspondent Sandra Hughes reports, scientists have tried to understand the dynamic nature of Yellowstone National Park. "It's beautiful up here, everybody should see this at one time or another," says one appreciative observer. Scientist Lisa Morgan may have unlocked one piece in the puzzle, deep below the park's biggest lake. "It is kind of the last unmapped frontier in Yellowstone National Park," says Morgan. What she found looks more like the surface of the moon. Using sonar she's identified a massive bulging dome the size of seven football fields. The only other underwater dome in...

FBI Suspected McVeigh Link to Robbers JOHN SOLOMON Associated Press WASHINGTON - The FBI believed Timothy McVeigh tried to recruit additional help in the days before the deadly 1995 Oklahoma City bombing and gathered evidence that white supremacist bank robbers may have become involved, according to government documents never introduced at McVeigh's trial. The retired FBI chief of the Oklahoma City investigation, Dan Defenbaugh, said he was unaware of some evidence obtained by The Associated Press and that the investigation should be reopened to determine whether the robbery gang was linked to McVeigh.
