Controversy over a 15-foot tall Viking statue in Canada has heated up in the town of Gimli - specifically over the horns on its helmet, which some say aren't realistic. With a battle axe in one hand, a horn in the other and a cape hanging down its back, the Viking statue is almost entirely realistic aside from one recognizable detail - the horns that poke out on the side of the battle warrior's helmet. 'There's never been a Viking helmet found with horns,' The historical accuracy of the horns was put into question and prompted a debate on social...

“These mountain goats are big animals and those horns are very sharp,” But what could’ve possibly taken down one of these enormous beasts? Another grizzly? Illegal poaching? Nope. A mountain goat. Several deep puncture wounds – one beneath each armpit and one into the neck – confirm the fatal blows came from a species that is common prey to brown bears. “Grizzly bear predation of mountain goats is relatively common, and I guess the mountain goat was successful in this instance and turned the tables on the grizzly,” “The necropsy determined that the female grizzly bear died of natural causes,...

Two quarreling city bus drivers locked horns and refused to move their massive rigs in a bizarre stand-off on a narrow two-way avenue in Brooklyn, a video released Friday shows. The B35 buses, each facing the opposite direction, stopped a few feet from each other on 13th Ave. near 39th St. in Borough Park about 6:45 p.m. Thursday, but both drivers refused to budge, sparking some gridlock in the area, the video shows. “Back it up! Back it up!” one of the MTA drivers screamed to the other. “How am I going to back up? Why can’t you back up?”...

Mobile technology has transformed the way we live — how we read, work, communicate, shop and date. But we already know this. What we have not yet grasped is the way the tiny machines in front of us are remolding our skeletons, possibly altering not just the behaviors we exhibit but the bodies we inhabit. New research in biomechanics suggests that young people are developing hornlike spikes at the back of their skulls — bone spurs caused by the forward tilt of the head, which shifts weight from the spine to the muscles at the back of the head, causing...

DENVER -- Flaggers have returned to some crossings along the RTD A Line between Union Station and Denver International Airport. In June, the flaggers were removed, but they have returned as RTD tries to figure out a software problem that was discovered on a number of rail lines in the area. The flaggers have returned to the York, Steele, and Holly street crossings, a move that signifies RTD believes the automated gates are still not safe enough to operate without on-site supervision. ... RTD is only saying its contractor, Denver Transit Partners, is doing some updating and testing of the...

This goat got into trouble after kidding around on some power lines. The animal somehow managed to trap itself by its horns on overhead cables, leaving it dangling from a hillside above a 20-ft drop to a road. As this amazing footage shows, the goat was caught in the lines and couldn’t get down. It had to be removed by a team of men, who used a ladder to tie a rope around the animal’s leg, before one of them pulled the goat back to the hill and set it free.

(Mrs. Bill Satan) While Republicans are busy beating the war drums in GOP debates, Hillary Clinton is apparently having to tend to important matters of her own. Like reassuring voters that no, she is not Satan. At least, that's what she claims. Via the NY Post: WASHINGTON -- Hillary Clinton sought to set the record straight Wednesday - she's not Satan. Campaigning in red-state Nebraska, the Democratic presidential front-runner encouraged a friendly audience of some 800 people to spread the word to their GOP friends. "First thing you can tell them, as best as you can tell looking [at me]...

FULL TITLE: Court hears how triple murder suspect who has implanted horns and '666' tattoo on his face went to Home Depot to buy saws A Massachusetts man sporting two rows of horns implanted into his forehead was back in court Tuesday for Day 3 of his trial, which revolved around the testimony of a Home Depot worker about the defendant's shopping trip prior to a triple homicide. More rhinos were killed by poachers last year in Africa than ever before. In 2014 the dubious record looks set to be broken again. The black market price for rhino horn is now considerably higher than cocaine. Poachers from Mozambique's poorest villages sneak into South Africa, heavily armed under the cover of darkness. They are here to hunt rhinos. The money they make from just one rhino horn is enough to feed their families for months. It’s a payoff worth risking their lives for. Between 1990 and 2007 poachers killed on average 14 rhinos a year in South Africa. Last...

January 31, 2014 Milton, Vermont and Calgary, Alberta, Canada - Three years ago in January 2011, I produced my first Earthfiles news reports about mysterious, unexplained booms occasionally being reported in various parts of North America. Then a year later on January 18-19, 2012 , in addition to persistent, mysterious booms came reports of mysterious horn or trumpet sounds. I did my first interviews with American earwitnesses of highly strange trumpet sounds in Gallatin, Tennessee. The first was a retired real estate agent northeast of Nashville, who described for me the eerie chorus of trumpets that suddenly filled the air...

Lots of people have tattoos. Lots of people have piercings. Not very many people have both, plus horns implanted on their foreheads, though. But Jesse Thornhill does. Tulsa police arrested the 28-year-old man Wednesday after he allegedly tried to run over his landlord with his minivan. Fortunately, the landlord was not hurt because she managed to dodge the 1996 Ford Windstar. Thornhill was arrested and later bonded out of jail.

Male animals often use their horns to fight over females, but at least one species’ females use their horns to fight over excrement. The species, no surprise, is the dung beetle. Unlike many of the animals we usually associate with elaborate horns, antlers, or other head weaponry—in which the male has the most impressive set—dung beetle females have horns that put the male version to shame.

Could there possibly be an American who doesn't admire the Reverend Billy Graham? Apparently, yes. Have a look at the cover of this week's 'Time.' Of all the ways the editors might have positioned the logo, they managed to do so in a manner in which the 'M' in 'TIME' is transformed into horns protuding from the good reverend's head.

Longhorn Parody Continues With Minor Changes COLLEGE STATION, TEXAS: Aggieland Outfitters, located near the campus of Texas A&M University, announced today its owners have successfully settled a lawsuit brought by The University of Texas to stop sales of merchandise bearing the “SAW ‘EM OFF” logo, which parodies UT’s longhorn mascot. In the settlement, UT agreed that Fadi Kalaouze and his parent company Kalcorp could continue using the “SAW ‘EM OFF” logo, if they made minor changes that further distinguished it from UT’s longhorn trademark. The agreed-upon changes include adding a small blaze and nostrils to the steer’s face. “I am...
