WINDERMERE, Fla. (CBS Tampa/AP) — Tiger Woods tied for last place in his return to golf after four months and found at least one reason for optimism. At least he has his health. Except for flu-like symptoms on Saturday when he ended up vomiting on the golf course, Woods made it through 72 holes of the Hero World Challenge by swinging as hard as he wanted without feeling any pain. In his eyes, that far outweighed the shocking sight of so many duffed chips...

Released Tuesday, Blood Sport: Alex Rodriguez, Biogenesis and the Quest to End Baseball’s Steroid Era, co-authored by Tim Elfrink of the Miami New Times and Gus-Garcia Roberts of Newsday, claims that the Canadian sports doctor Anthony Galea who treated Rodriguez also visited Woods 14 times between January and August 2009 and charged Woods a total of $76,012 as he recovered from knee surgery following his 2008 U.S. Open victory. Previous reports had identified only...

I’m a huge Tiger Woods fan. That’s why it pains me that he continues to do damage to his once-nearly-pristine image. Having recently reclaimed his sport’s ranking as World No. 1 – as the Euros put it – Tiger flew this week to Augusta, Georgia as the favorite to win the Masters. He acquitted himself rather well the tourney’s first two days, save for a mishap yesterday on the 15th hole. He hit an approach shot to the green that, as bad luck would have it, ricocheted off the flag pole and careened into the creek. After taking a “drop”...

Tiger Woods was three strokes off the lead in the Masters when he completed the second round at Augusta National Golf Club on Friday. But he began his third round five strokes behind the leader Jason Day after being assessed a two-stroke penalty on Saturday for an illegal drop on the 15th hole of the second round.

Don't Drop the Ball, Augusta On a day that so much attention was given to a rules infraction, it’s another rules infraction that everyone should be talking about. We all know that 14 year old Guan Tianlang, competing at a level far beyond his age, was assessed a 1-stroke penalty for slow play. While basically nobody liked this ruling or agreed with it, it was technically correct. USGA Rule 26 governs drops when a ball is in a water hazard. Per this rule, a player can replay the shot from “as nearly as possible from the spot from which the...

A Canadian sports doctor whose high-profile clients have included Tiger Woods and Alex Rodriguez pleaded guilty in federal court Wednesday to bringing unapproved drugs, including human growth hormone, into the United States to unlawfully treat pro athletes. Dr. Anthony Galea, a healing specialist from Toronto who was sought out by the biggest names in sports, was indicted by a federal grand jury in October on charges that he smuggled human growth hormone and other substances into the United States and lied to border agents to avoid getting caught. He faces similar charges in Canada.

PONTE VEDRA BEACH, Fla . -- Tiger Woods stood behind the ninth green on Thursday and wondered aloud at what had just transpired. On a day in which good shots were few and far between, not to mention few and far afield, he has just bombed his second shot on the par-5 hole over the green on the fly and into an oak tree behind the green. It was a towering shot that was seemingly in the air forever. He handed the club back to caddie Steve Williams and said, "I just hit it 290 with a 5-wood?" Even the...

SAN FRANCISCO -- The jury in the Barry Bonds convicted the seven-time MVP guilty of obstruction of justice, but the defense and prosecution agreed to a mistrial on the other three remaining counts. The judge, after speaking to the jury foreman, said she believes the mistrial is the proper decision given that the jury believes it has reached a crossroads. The jury is being brought back into the courtroom to read the verdict on the one count on which it agreed. The eight women and four men are returning the verdict after four days of deliberations. The jury has worked...

Tiger Woods's feudal right to rule the roost can no longer be sustained when he gets duffed up quite as badly as this. The sight of Tiger giving of his best and finding it consistently and dazzlingly bettered by a man who, if he can forgive the imagery, really now ought to be dubbed 'Son of Monty' almost beggared belief as well as triggering the explosion of joy which ignited this great European comeback.

AKRON, Ohio -- Talk about your symbolism. Struggling yet again, Tiger Woods blew his drive on his final hole of the day deep into the gallery and the trees, punched out short of the green and found that his ball had come to rest near a large metal sewer grate.

Tiger Woods has been interviewed by federal authorities investigating a Canadian doctor accused of distributing human growth hormone, a person familiar with the investigation told The Associated Press on Wednesday. The person spoke on the condition of anonymity because the investigation of Dr. Anthony Galea is ongoing. Woods previously acknowledged that he's been treated by the Toronto-based doctor but insisted that he did not receive any performance-enhancing drugs. "Tiger willingly spoke to the authorities and cooperated fully," Woods' agent, Mark Steinberg, said in an e-mail. "It was confirmed that because he did nothing illegal, he is not the subject of...

Dumped by his coach, accused of lying about his neck injury and with his golf game deteriorating badly, Tiger Woods might have thought he could not suffer any more since the extraordinary night that blew his life apart last November. It is not certain if the physical and mental turmoil currently afflicting the world's top golfer will allow him to play at next month's US Open at Pebble Beach or at The Open at St Andrews in July.

According to a Sports Illustrated poll, almost a quarter of top PGA Tour golfers think that Woods has taken drugs. Twelve months ago he was both feared and revered. Now he is viewed by many of his peers as a cheat on and off the course.

Retired teacher Maureen Decker emerged yesterday from Woods' sordid past to say that a story he's told about being brutalized by racist kids on his first day of kindergarten was pure bunk. "I am asking Tiger for a private and public apology to put my mind at ease and set the record straight," said Decker, a smiling 69-year-old. Decker ripped a recollection from Woods that appeared in a book written by his buddy, former NBA star Charles Barkley, and which he repeated in an interview with Barbara Walters. "A group of sixth graders tied me to a tree, spray-painted the...

Federal law enforcement officials have alerted a number of world-class athletes to expect grand jury subpoenas in the case against Canadian physician Anthony Galea, three sources familiar with the investigation tell SI.com. While it is unclear which athletes and how many will be subpoenaed, it is an indication that the multi-agency, federal investigation of Galea is progressing. According to a December story in The New York Times, Galea's medical assistant told investigators that he had administered performance-enhancing drugs to professional athletes. The FBI, Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and Food and Drug Administration investigators are working together on the case....
