The district has completed the fact-finding portion of its investigation into the drag show event that took place at Hempfield High School on April 25, 2022. As was stated in previous communication, the district is now sharing relevant findings and follow-up actions based on information that came out of the investigation. The Hempfield School District issued a statement Friday apologizing for what has been described by several media outlets as an after-school drag show that was held by the Gay Sexuality Alliance Club at Hempfield High earlier in the week. A Hempfield Area High School sophomore spent 12 days in juvenile detention after authorities in Westmoreland County mistakenly charged him with making a March 11 bomb threat, in part because the district had not changed its clocks to reflect daylight-saving time.

Hempfield Township Supervisor R. Douglas Weimer switched his registration to Republican from Democrat Monday. Weimer raised eyebrows last year when he campaigned door to door in support of fellow supervisor and new Republican Bob Regola, in Regola's successful run for the state Senate.
