CAMP TAJI, Iraq, April 16, 2008 – Throughout his life, Army Staff Sgt. Steven Atlas has tried to live by one philosophy: “Pay it forward.” The basic principle of this creed is simple; if someone helps you, then in return, you should try to help someone else. Army Staff Sgt. Steven Atlas, a computer systems maintainer in Company C, 412th Aviation Support Battalion, poses for a picture in front of a satellite he helps to maintain. Atlas, a Chicago native, tries to live by a philosophy named after a movie titled “Pay It Forward.” Photo by Army Sgt. Brandon...

Birdfeeders Can Both Help And Harm Bird PopulationsAttractive feeders can become ecological traps, encouraging birds to settle in an area that cannot support them once supplemental feeding has stopped. (Credit: iStockphoto/Andrew Howe) ScienceDaily (Apr. 7, 2008) — Millions of people tend bird feeders in their backyards each year, often out of a desire to help the animals. But a new survey of research on the topic finds that feeding may not always bring a positive outcome for the birds. In many cases, bird feeding was shown to have immediate positive outcomes. A number of studies indicated, for example, that chicks...

Alrighty, probably should of asked this earlier, but I figured I would be able to find this info otherwise. I work in a US division of a Canadian company. I particapated in an Employee Stock purchase plan. I sold the stock in 2007. The problem is the broker is Canadian as well even though the stock is US listed and purchased in US Dollars. I received a T5008 Statement instead of a 1099. I can only get a years worth of detail(bought and sold information) online for one year(ex. April 2007-April 2008). I went round and round with the broker...

I just got a Dell laptop Latitude. I've never owned a laptop before. Can I literally use it on my lap? I heard the bottom gets hot? Does it get so hot that it can discolor my furniture? When I'm not using it for business, I'll have it connected to my tv. Can I just leave it plugged in with no adverse effect, or am I supposed to unplug it when not in use. (Seems like Dell would ship some kind of owner's manual with it, doesn't it?) thanx
• Muslims outnumber Catholics

Herald Sun ^ | 31 March 2008
ISLAM has overtaken Roman Catholicism as the biggest single religious denomination in the world. Monsignor Vittorio Formenti, who compiled the Vatican's 2008 yearbook, said Muslims made up 19.2 per cent of the world's population and Catholics 17.4 per cent. "For the first time in history we are no longer at the top - the Muslims have overtaken us," Monsignor Formenti told Vatican newspaper L'Osservatore Romano, saying the data referred to 2006. He said that if all Christian groups were considered, including Orthodox churches, Anglicans and Protestants, then Christians made up 33 per cent of the world's population - or about...

I'm looking for someone who may know how to enter a mathematical formula into a MS Excel spreadsheet. I am a general contractor, the formula is for determining the radius of an arc depending on the distance between two points, with the height of the arc remaining constant. The formula is: r = (m)(m) + .25 (c) (c) over (divided by) 2(m) r is radius, m is the height of the arc, and c is the distance between the two points. I have no problem doing this all with a calculator, but it is time consuming and I have a...

I'm in an argument with liberal co-workers on the merits of gun ownership. They are claiming that there are few (if any) examples of where civilians (not police officers or security guards) came to the public’s defense. We are talking about malls, universities, restaurants, etc., not private residence. I'm sure there was an incident at restaurant a few years ago, but can't find a link.

I'm going to order a Dell laptop Latitude computer. The specs say: 2.0GB, DDR2-667 SDRAM, 2 DIMMS [Included in Price] Now, "DIMM" is "Dual Inline Memory Module," right? That means it has two sockets for the memory strips? But it offers, as a $30 option, 2 GB memory with 1 DIMM. I thought DIMM required memory be installed in pairs. Why is this better? thanx

My computer is infested with this crap and I can't get rid of it. None of the free services can solve the problem, and I might even pay for such a service, except that all of them seem to be just folks willingly to take advantage of you and charge you more money, and possibly infect you more. Has anyone here seen this? How should I and anyone else deal with this?
