Hi folks, Is there anyway to delete an item directly from the "System Configuration Utility" screen? If you look at the photo below, you'll see that "svcnet.exe" is NOT checked under the "startup" tab. When I go into the registry [HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run] of course there's no key for "svcnet.exe" because it's unticked in the "startup" tab. The only key there is "NVCPL" since it's the only item ticked to launch at startup. My question is this: is there anyway to delete the unchecked item "svcnet.exe" from "System Configuration Utility" (so it doesn't appear there again) WITHOUT having to run the program again...

I need a quick education about registering a domain name. I have no experience with this, but have a .com name that I want to secure - even though I'm not ready to put up the site just yet. Is there a way to secure a domain name without using companies like godaddy.com or register.com? Are any of these registering services any better / more reputable than another? How does the "back-order" thing work? (Can your domain be 'stolen'?)

Ok Folks: I have asked a lot of my friends at the Free Republic but I figured that was what you are there for. The Free Republic is not just a blog but it is a blog that DOES things and takes action when necessary. Not only does FR make you think, sometimes it makes you ACT and that is what makes it great. That and the people that participate who are the most patriotic people I know.

I was wondering if anyone could provide me with a published story that is particularly striking about identity theft or any resources that would be helpful in delivering a speech on this topic.

I am in the process of writing a musical tribute to the work of our military in Iraq, and I am needing quotes from our history that would apply to the mission these soldiers are facing. I am specifically wanting the quote about the Tree of Liberty needing to be watered with the blood of tyrants. Also, any quotes from our history that has to deal with the issues of freedom, sacrifice, the value of living in America; American family life, heroism, selflessness, the values we are fighting for (protecting our freedoms of religion, speech, property, travel) etc. I know...

Tried for a weekend to install NSW on an AMD system running XP Pro. No go. Spent hours on the phone with Symantec. No good. Installed Ghost. Installs fine; errors out when run. I thought by now AMD systems would be fully compatible; evidently I was wrong. "Fully contemptible" might be more appropriate. Any suggestions? I am thinking of pitching it and going back to intel. --Boris

when i hit enter to post at fr there's a delay of 5-10 seconds. i look down at the lower left hand and it says: connecting to free republic... transferring data from tinypic.com... transferring data from johntrapp.com... transferring data fromphotobucket.com... transferring data from homepage.mac.com... none of those are my doings. i have 6-month-old compaq, 64, running windows xp. i have zone alarm which routinely notifies me of children coming and going into and out of the house. i have ad-ware and use it weekly. i have spybot and use it weekly. they've eliminated a lot of stuff. do i have...

I'm giving one of my old computers to my sister, but I don't have an antivirus program to install on it. Is there a cheap or free antivirus program out there that I can use on a WIN2K box? I run NIS 2005 on my own machine, but that's $70. NAV 2005 is $50. Is it worth it to cheap out, or should I spend the money?

OK, I am in a new job. For some reason, they don't use outlook here. They use ACT! and everybody shares the same calander. It if fine for scheduling business meetings, but I am used to haveing my own Outlook, and filling up my Calander with various things like "Call jim back", or "remember to call mom", or "follow up with Fred" and I don't want to fill up the corporate calander with all my stuff. It's really annoying. Is there any good calander/scheduler ont the net that anyone can reccomend? Does Mozilla have one? Thanks

I started a Conservative based Blog about a month and a half ago with 2 friends who have since bailed on the project. I am looking for 2 conservative/libertarian minded individuals who would be willing to contribute to this blog project. The website is called Right On! and if you would like to join, email me at macguru jamesmeister com. Thank you so much, and I hope that this isn't considered SPAM. -James

I need help. My computer just died on me, and I need to build a new one fast, but I need advice on which motherboard to buy. I want to get one of the nvidia nforce motherboards, but beyond that I'm having problems. I'm either going to use my old processor (Athlon 1700) or this one, and I'm not sure what will be compatible. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

I would like to buy a new computer and I do not know what to buy. I was looking at the Sony VGC-V517G 17 " TV-PC or the Gateway all in one Computer. I do not plan on using it for anything in particular, but I would like one more powerful than what I have now. I would appreciate any information. Please not to technical. Thanks

Can someone give me a fancy name for one who is the Keeper of the Holy Book? I am thinking back to antiquity when the elders kept the actual Ark of the Covenant. We have a document at work that we are tracking everything -- it has been deemed to be the "Holy Book" (no offense meant to anyone). I therefore want to label the team that keeps it with an appropriate name. This will go far in cementing my reputation as an esoteric maniac.

I'm sorry to distrub your bandwidth, but I'm looking for a helpful Freeper. This weekend I tried to install a wireless network at my parents house. I purchased a Linksys wireless router, and a Linksys PCI Wireless Network card. Setting up the wireless router on my parent's PC was a breeze... I followed the step by step directions and it went on like a champ. The PCI card also wasn't much trouble. I found a slot in my Dell, and it configured itself. (Oh, both systems are running XP Home.) Okay so the PCI card found the router, and it...

Please pardon this vanity, freepers, but we live in a part of the country that is unlikely to get DSL anytime soon. Eight days ago I had a dish installed and it has just barely functioned 25% of the time. I'm beginning to think that unless you know someone in upper level management at Hughes, you can't expect to get competent technical or on site service. On the first level of service, you get very cordial East Indians who generally can't solve the problem. At "advanced" service, you get generally conflicting advice, and after you've exhausted them, and literally begged...

I put a music CD that came with a book into my computer last night, played, and now my computer won't recognize either my CD or my CD writer. I've tried everything; Norton, Restore, rebooting. Does anybody have any suggestions about what I might try now?

WASHINGTON - The Pentagon (news - web sites) is turning up the heat on the Russian government for ignoring pleas to cooperate in verifying an expanding body of anecdotal evidence that American servicemen from World War II and the Korean War were secretly held in prison camps in Siberia. Russian inaction has made the effort to confirm information about the presence of Americans in the gulag — the network of penal camps that stretched across the former Soviet Union — "a distinctly unilateral U.S. pursuit," Norman Kass, a leader of the Pentagon project, wrote in the introduction to a new...
