At least 13 people have been killed and hundreds more are feared missing after historic floods inundated a Texas county.
Twenty three people are missing from Camp Mystic in Hunt, Texas, after the Guadalupe River flooded and surged by up to 30 feet above its usual water leve Friday.
The names of those killed have not been shared, but the final death toll is expected to rise substantially as floodwaters recede.
And the identities of the missing have begun to emerge as stricken families share photos of their loved ones in the hopes of learning information about their whereabouts.
Officials have stressed they hope to rescue many of the missing and say they're still hopeful of finding most of those missing safe and well.
But the sheer scale of destruction - with buildings ripped from their foundations and cars swept away like toys - suggests that may be an overly optimistic prediction.

Thank you very much and God bless you.
Prayers that there will be rescues.
This is so horrific. I lost a nephew in 2013, went missing on a rafting trip, then the weather turned quickly that afternoon, and the area had dozens of tornados, river rose like 20 feet overnight. He has never been found, and it has been pure anguish for his dad, all these
....anguish for his dad, all these years.
Dang 🙏🙏🙏
How did the reporter know they were girls? They don’t know what women are, much less girls...
It was a girls’ camp.
People who move here from out of state need to know that Texas can be a dangerous place to live. People who have lived in the central Texas area know that flash flooding in the area creeks and rivers can happen in minutes. Long time residents of the Guadalupe River area know this well. All these people moving in here from California and other states are likely not aware of this. Ignorance and/or stupidity will kill you quick in Texas!
Unfortunately out of state realtors and developers couldn’t care less about flood plains and flash floods as long as they make a sale. Add immigrants and refugees from blue states and bad things can happen.
You are correct; anytime I look at an area, I check the flood info; homes.com does use the FEMA flood data.
We got a taste of that during the Memorial Day flood of 1981 in Austin. We were camping on the shore at Lake Travis and ended up bailing out around 10:30 at night. We escaped unharmed but there was a lot of destruction around the city.
BUMP!

My God 💔 Prayers needed…
🚨 SITREP: Texas Flooding and Missing Girls from Camp Mystic
• Catastrophic flash flooding hit Kerr County, Texas, along the Guadalupe River after 10-12 inches of rain fell overnight last night, causing the river to surge 26 feet in 45 minutes.
- Casualties: At least 13 confirmed deaths, including children.
- Missing: 23 girls from Camp Mystic (Hunt, TX) unaccounted for out of 750 campers; four named (Renee Smajstrla, Eloise Peck, Lila Bonner, Lainey Landry). A family of five also missing from a Kerrville RV park.
I am seeing reports that some girls have been rescued. (Second & third attachment)
- Damage: Widespread destruction in Kerrville, Hunt, Ingram, and Comfort, with washed-out roads, flooded camp cabins, and an engulfed RV park.
- Over 400-500 personnel (Texas Game Wardens, National Guard, Texas A&M Task Force 1) using helicopters, drones, and boats for search and rescue.
- Governor Abbott deployed state resources; President Trump pledged federal aid.
- Reunification point at Walmart (Kerrville); shelter at Comfort High School.
- Camp Mystic evacuated and coordinating with families.
There was LITTLE to NO WARNING whatsoever, causing outrage amongst citizens..

That’s a garbage comment on a thread about a potential high loss of life of children.
Grow up and stop being a jerk.
“ Texas can be a dangerous place to live -”
Keeps the riff raff out, as my grandmother used to say…
Stop!
This is neither the time nor place for that kind of nonsense.
When it went past my buddy’s place it was @ 52 feet. An 8 yr old girl was wept away from the Mystic camp down the road but rode a mattress 5 miles and got picked out of the water.
PTL that she was saved!!
Truly amazing she was able to hang on, for dear LIFE, onto that mattress for 5 miles.
These girls are the ages of my granddaughters. Just heartbreaking ... we’re all on edge awaiting some good (more) news.
