A recent study on beaked whales showed that even the reclusive giants are negatively affected by a host of anthropogenic activities. What's happening? The paper, published in Royal Society Open Science in April, documented 14 human-caused threats to the cetaceans, which Phys.org dubbed "one of the least encountered mammals." Climate change, including ocean acidification and marine heatwaves; plastic pollution; and whaling were among the dangers categorized as serious, intermediate, moderate, or unknown. The study of "gray literature" was led by Laura Feyrer, a research scientist at Fisheries and Oceans Canada. Military sonar was listed as a serious threat to beaked...

This morning I was in the process of uploading a video I created about making the GREATEST Margarita in the world. However, I noticed there was no monetization button. When I checked further I noticed my entire channel had been demonetized (again). On top of that there was NO explanation from YouTube for the demonetization either on the dashboard or via email which always happened when they demonetized before. I checked on Twitter and it turns out that many other video creators had the same experience. For what I can piece together is that YouTube only meant to demonetize all...

OFFICIALS in a county in central China have been told to smoke nearly a quarter million packs of locally made cigarettes annually or risk being fined, state media reports. The Gong'an county government in Hubei province has ordered its staff to puff their way through 230,000 packs of Hubei-produced cigarette brands a year, the Global Times said. Departments that fail to meet their targets will be fined, according to the report.

Is there someone around here who can explain things to me?

Like in a scene from one of his horror novels, writer Stephen King channeled the spirit of John Kerry while addressing a group of high school students at the Library of Congress recently: I don't want to sound like an ad, a public service ad on TV, but the fact is if you can read, you can walk into a job later on. If you don't, then you've got, the Army, Iraq, I don't know, something like that. It's, it's not as bright. So, that's my little commercial for that. What mysterious and evil force compels liberals to morph into complete...

I am writing a law school paper n in which I need to create a new law that I think should be passed. I then need to backup the law with public policy as to why it should be passed. I am struggle to come up with a good law that will foster good public policy that has not already been passed in some form or another. The law can be for any governmental body. Does anyone have any great ideas or at least an area I can start looking

Oh boy! Here we go again. Some of you may remember a couple of weeks ago I asked for help regarding installing a new hard drive. With the help of several here I was able to get it up and running. I am not sure now, in light of my current predicament, whether it was running the way I thought it was. I decided to upgrade my system with a new MB, RAM and CPU. I got an Athlon 64 3000, an MSI motherboard and 1G of ram. The MB posted fine and I monitored the temps for about ten...

BAGHDAD, Iraq: U.S. Sen. John Kerry said Saturday his visit with American and British troops had helped in "crystallizing" his views about the situation in Iraq and he was looking forward to hearing Iraqi ideas about political steps to restore stability here.Kerry, the Democratic nominee for president in 2004 and possibly a future contender, conferred Saturday with U.S. and British officers in the southern city of Basra and with American troops in Diyala province during a nine-day Middle East tour. "Today was very informative and very helpful in crystallizing some of my thoughts insofar as what we can negotiate ......

SENATOR JOHN KERRY 304 RUSSELL SENATE OFFICE BUILDING WASHINGTON DC 20510 DEAR SENATOR KERRY: WE ARE STILL LAUGHING OVER HERE IN IRAQ AT YOUR JOKE ABOUT THE TROOPS BEING DUMB. WE DO RECOGNIZE THAT YOU ARE A LOT SMARTER THAN WE ARE BECAUSE YOU WERE ABLE TO GET OUT OF COMBAT IN THREE MONTHS. THIS IS WHY WE ARE SEEKING YOUR ADVICE. PLEASE GIVE US GUIDANCE. 1.) WHERE IS THE LEAST PAINFUL AREA ON THE BODY TO INFLICT A WOUND? 2.) DOES IT HAVE TO BLEED OR WILL A SCRATCH DO? 3.) WHERE DO YOU GET THE FORMS TO FILL...

THIS TIME, it will be harder for John Kerry to have it two ways. He can't be for and against a presidential campaign. The pressure is on to choose: Will he run for president or Senate in 2008? Kerry can't be a presidential nominee and candidate for US Senate on the November 2008 ballot -- a longshot, but still a technical possibility. The state Legislature and governor could change the law, as Connecticut once did for Senator Joe Lieberman. But that seems unlikely, and Kerry seems disinclined to find out. Kerry adviser Ed Reilly said, "With the end of the...

As I am new here, I hope I get this right. This is a long shot, but I am writing a paper for one of my terrorism classes (DO THIS EVENING!), covering the Madrid Bombing, and have been unsuccessfully searching for what I remember being "declaration's of war," or "resumption of war" to retake Europe found in unexploded backpacks. I remember explicitly reading about something to this effect, but cannot find this information anywhere. Can anyone out there point me in the right direction? Thanks either way.

We've been inundated with media requests about the source of the now-famous "HALP US JON CARRY" banner. (I've already done a live shot on Fox News, and given interviews for John Gibson's show and "Inside Edition," which should air later today.) **UPDATE The MSM catches up. Even CNN is reporting Troops respond to 'Jon Carry' with plea for 'halp'; while CBS is reporting "Minnesota Guard Members Mock Kerry In 'Irak' Photo", The AP has put a story on the wire, and the Minneapolis Star-Tribune is also catching up: The photo initially was posted on the website of Milwaukee talk radio...
