The French president Emmanuel Macron has announced a curfew during which everyone must be at home between 9pm and 6am for the Paris region, as well as the cities of Rouen, Lille, St Etienne, Lyon, Grenoble, Montpellier, Marseille and Toulouse. The curfew will begin on Saturday and will last for four weeks, he said.

Seven mayors from France called on President Emmanuel Macron to step in and help them deal with the flow of (illegal) immigrants from Africa and the Middle East. French daily Le Monde published a letter written by the mayors of Strasbourg, Grenoble, Rennes, Nantes, Toulouse, Lille, and Bordeaux. A man has been decapitated and an Islamist flag raised near a French factory in Grenoble, according to reports. There are also reports of a loud explosion at the factory and several other victims.

GRENOBLE, France (AFP) - Rioters exchanged gunfire with police in the French city of Grenoble early Saturday, setting fire to shops and cars after police shot dead a man accused of robbing a casino. Youths torched between 50 and 60 cars in the southeastern French city, as well as construction equipment and two shops, while police said they made five arrests.
