Democratic US Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez of New York, a key fundraiser for her party, is calling for donations to “directly” support the Texas Democrats who broke quorum to block a vote on the state’s new congressional map. In a fundraising email from her team, Ocasio-Cortez said proceeds will be split with former US Rep. Beto O’Rourke’s Texas political action committee, Powered By People. The PAC raised more than $700,000 for state House Democrats during a similar quorum break in 2021. The fundraising email said Ocasio-Cortez and Powered By People are racing money “to support these lawmakers directly as Gov. (Greg)...

Texas Republicans are trying to update their Congressional map in a way that will provide fairer representation for Republicans. (Fairer, in any event, in the context of the gerrymandering for which Democrats have long been notorious.) Texas House Democrats have fled the state to prevent establishment of a quorum, and thus defeat the redistricting. This is nothing new. Democrats did the same thing in Wisconsin a few years ago, and earlier this year in Minnesota. No doubt there are other instances. What is different this time is the Republicans’ response: “Greg Abbott Drops Bombshell on TX Dems Who Fled State:...

More than 100,000 patients who visited hospitals in Texas between last November and February of this year admitted they were illegal migrants, according to state data. The data was gathered after Texas Republican Gov. Greg Abbott signed a law last year requiring hospitals to ask registering patients if they are a legal U.S. resident. According to KXAN-TV, by the end of February, 108,581 patients admitted to being illegal aliens — about 2.3 percent of all patients. This number, though, is obviously not complete. The law does not require patients to answer the question, and 12.9 percent — or 617,000 patients...

A 'devastating and deadly' flood in central Texas swept a suspected summer camp cabin down the Guadalupe River while people were still inside.Terrified occupants yelled out 'oh my god' and screamed in horror as the property was floating down the rushing river somewhere between the towns of Kerrville and Comfort. The Guadalupe River rapidly rose by more than 22 feet overnight, broke its banks and overtook several small, rural towns across Kerr County. At least six people are dead and there's a frenzied search for those missing as torrential rains bombard the region. The raging floods have swept away homes, entire RV...

Four years after Gov. Greg Abbott announced Texas would be the first state to build its own border wall, lawmakers have quietly stopped funding the project, leaving only scattered segments covering a small fraction of the border. That decision, made in the waning hours of this year’s legislative session, leaves the future of the state wall unclear. Just 8% of the 805 miles the state identified for construction is complete, which has cost taxpayers more than $3 billion to date. The Texas Tribune reported last year that the wall is full of gaps that migrants and smugglers can easily walk...

On Wednesday’s broadcast of MSNBC’s “The Briefing,” host Jen Psaki stated that California Gov. Gavin Newsom (D) is doing “sort of the opposite” of Texas Gov. Greg Abbott (R) in that Newsom “doesn’t want the National Guard to be intervening in these protests” and that protests in San Antonio have been peaceful. Psaki said, “This is the scene in San Antonio, Texas right now. Hundreds of people holding signs, playing music, cheering, and chanting, peacefully protesting ICE raids in their community. In response to organizers planning that San Antonio rally, Texas Gov. Greg Abbott announced that he would deploy the...

Democratic National Committee (DNC) Vice Chair David Hogg said during a Friday interview that Democratic Texas Rep. Jasmine Crockett is an ideal role model for their party. Crockett has rapidly surged to prominence with her racially-charged tirades and inflammatory anti-Republican attacks, such as calling wheelchair-bound Texas Gov. Greg Abbott “Governor Hot Wheels.” When radio host Charlamagne Tha God requested Hogg’s thoughts on Crockett, the DNC vice chair gushed about the congresswoman, saying she delivers the “authenticity” that Americans desire. “Jasmine Crockett — I love her. She is amazing. I think that people want to see somebody who fights and calls...

Laura Loomer @LauraLoomer I spoke with @Carlos__Turcios about the Sharia law compound currently being built in Texas while @GregAbbottTX and @JohnCornyn scramble to cover for their failures to combat the Islamification of Texas. Muslims are building a massive Islamic compound in Plano, Texas, complete with illegal funeral services, and now they are under investigation for violating state laws. Abbott says "there’s no Sharia law in Texas." But, he’s wrong. They’re not even asking for permission. They’re implementing it.

Opponents of a proposed Muslim city in Texas flooded a public meeting Monday in hopes of stopping a controversial Islamic compound from getting necessary permits to begin construction. For two hours, the Collin County Commissioners Court heard dozens of speakers pleading with them to deny the East Plano Islamic Center or EPIC, permits needed to build a city for Muslims that's meant to be 'the epicenter of Islam in America' by organizers. EPIC, a sprawling house of worship located in Plano, Texas- just north of Dallas- has recently become a target for Gov. Greg Abbott who has accused the mosque...

I don't believe Ashley Allison. I don't believe that anyone with the minutest modicum of intelligence or integrity could believe Jasmine Crockett when she denied that in calling Greg Abbott "Governor Hot Wheels," she was referring to the paraplegic Republican Governor of Texas being confined to a wheelchair for decades. And yet, that's what Allison, a CNN contributor and former Obama and Biden aide, said on Tuesday's CNN NewsNight. If CNN had any integrity of its own, they'd never have back on its air someone who so blatantly lied, and lied in respect of a despicable mocking of a disabled...

Rep. Jasmine Crockett (D-TX) at a Human Rights Campaign dinner in Los Angeles over the weekend: "We in these hot ass Texas streets, honey. Y’all know we got Governor Hot Wheels down there, Come on now! And the only thing hot about him is that he is a hot ass mess, honey! So, so yes! Yes, yes, yes."

Alejandro Mayorkas, the nation’s top border official from 2021 to 2025, is denying blame for President Donald Trump’s smashing victory in 2024, which has scattered and impoverished the Democratic Party’s many interest groups. Instead, Mayorkas is blaming Texas GOP Gov. Greg Abbott and the upstart new media that he could not control as he gambled the party’s future by importing more than 10 million migrants for use by businesses and progressives.

A Texas high school official resigned over the controversy surrounding an undercover video showing him telling a parent how to place a biological boy in girls' sports. Reny Lizardo resigned as executive director of campus operations for the Irving Independent School District after the hidden-camera video led Texas Gov. Greg Abbott (R) to call for his immediate termination. The video was obtained and published by Accuracy in Media. The video shows an alleged parent expressing concern to Lizardo about "transphobia" and "bigotry" her transgender daughter might experience if the family moves to the area of the district. "Could you legally...

'Cecilia and I send our prayers and deepest condolences to First Lady Rosalynn Carter' Texas Gov. Greg Abbott responded to former President Jimmy Carter's death by sending condolences to the former first lady, although she has been dead for over a year. Carter, the 39th president of the United States, died Sunday at 100, the Carter Center announced. He passed away peacefully at his home in Plains, Georgia, where his wife Rosalynn Carter died Nov. 19, 2023. That didn't stop Abbott from extending his sympathies to the late First Lady, according to a statement posted to EIN Presswire early Monday...

Hundreds of migrants living in Chicago’s shelters could be evicted in the coming months as the mayor finally cuts back on the city’s overburdened shelters. Starting Tuesday, only migrants who have been in the city for 30 days or less will be eligible for a bed in one of the 13 migrant shelters in Chicago, Mayor Brandon Johnson‘s office said. Migrants already in the system will also be barred from reapplying to a shelter when they hit the city’s 60-day stay limit, with officials only making exceptions for pregnant women and those suffering from an illness or disability. The policy...

Attorney General Ken Paxton.. I am launching an investigation into reports that organizations in Texas are illegally registering non-citizens to vote. Texans are deeply troubled by the possibility that organizations purporting to assist with voter registration are illegally registering noncitizens to vote in our elections. If eligible citizens can legally register to vote when conducting their business at a DPS office, why would they need a second opportunity to register with a booth outside? My office is investigating every credible report we receive regarding potential criminal activity that could compromise the integrity of our elections. The Biden-Harris Administration has intentionally...

Nearly a million Texans were still without power on Friday. And the utility company with the most outages was facing threats of violence. ... HOUSTON — Eating becomes more difficult when the power is out. Ovens, refrigerators, microwaves, and electric stove tops become obsolete. L. Myra Gainous’ shopping cart displayed that at an H-E-B grocery store Friday afternoon. As the 83-year-old Houstonian left the store, her cart was stocked with chips, bread and fruit snacks — food she can eat until her electricity returns. Gainous is one of nearly 1 million customers still living without power five days after Hurricane...

Texas Governor Greg Abbott has come under fire on social media over his response to Hurricane Beryl, which crashed into the southeastern United States on Monday as a Category 1 hurricane leaving six dead in Texas, and one in Louisiana, according to The Associated Press. The storm caused widespread damage across Texas with the Houston area, where millions of people lost power, particularly badly affected. As of Tuesday just under 1.7 million CenterPoint customers remained without power according to The Houston Chronicle. Abbott is currently on an economic development tour of Asia and was in South Korea on Monday when...

A wave of Republican incumbents were swept out of the Texas House in Tuesday's primary runoffs, including a handful who opposed school vouchers last fall, handing Gov. Greg Abbott a tentative majority in the lower chamber on his signature issue. With most ballots counted across the state, six of the eight GOP House members who were forced into overtime appeared to lose their runoffs, continuing a surge of anti-establishment energy that had already led to the ouster of nine House Republicans in the March primary. The runoffs brought mixed results for Texas' hard right: the House gained a pro-voucher majority...

Call it pinko talent development, but we can still learn from it When Florida governor Ron DeSantis and Texas governor Greg Abbot proposed legislation making particular radical tactics crimes — many of them felonies — carrying mandatory jail time, much commentary, positive and negative, focused on DeSantis’ proposal (previously made by other jurisdictions) that a driver fleeing from safety from a mob should not be liable for injury or death caused by hitting someone with his car. That proposal was especially popular with those who, beyond supporting the right to physical safety and self-defense, fantasize about breaking radical Lefty movements...
