With only 8% built, Texas quietly defunds state border wall program
Texas Tribune ^ | Zach Despart and Alejandro Serrano

Four years after Gov. Greg Abbott announced Texas would be the first state to build its own border wall, lawmakers have quietly stopped funding the project, leaving only scattered segments covering a small fraction of the border.

That decision, made in the waning hours of this year’s legislative session, leaves the future of the state wall unclear. Just 8% of the 805 miles the state identified for construction is complete, which has cost taxpayers more than $3 billion to date. The Texas Tribune reported last year that the wall is full of gaps that migrants and smugglers can easily walk around and mostly concentrated on sprawling ranches in rural areas, where illegal border crossings are less likely to occur.

What a complete waste of $3 billion - provided to government coffers by the labor of citizens.

When governments waste money in such an egregious fashion, all elected representatives should receive a permanent 10% pay cut.

After spending billions of Texas taxpayers dollars on border security, only to have the FED come in and tear it all down, maybe it’s time for the Fed to come in and finish the job. There would be a whole lot more of that 8% still standing if the Fed hadn’t come in and destroyed it all.

So does this mean that illegals are still flooding the border?

Exactly. Protecting national borders is a national responsibility, not a state responsibility. If Texas is defunding because the USA is stepping up, that is a good thing.

Good for Texas.

If FJB or Willie’s Ho was in office, the need to continue building would still be a necessity.

Now that Trump and his National Deportation policies are in effect, a wall is not so needed.

I think that's what is happening. Biden was the "Come On In"....Here...I'll Open the Door for You.

There's money in the Fed Budget for the Southern Border.

Wonder how many seats the DEms picked up via the last census.

The border wall only needs to be built 10 miles on either side of border crossings to stop 99% of illegals. Plus under Trump, the Federal government is going to take up the cause.

I guess America will never have a wall worth anything but other countries have no problem. President Trump won’t be president forever and the Democrats will flood America with colonists and parasites again while dismantling everything President Trump has done.

So the wall construction is funded in the upcoming budget?

“The border wall only needs to be built 10 miles on either side of border crossings to stop 99% of illegals.”

Why is that? Wouldn’t they just cross wherever there’s no walk?
Ten miles doesn’t seem that far out of the way after traveling hundreds of miles north.

Is it that the terrain is too rough?
