An extensive new analysis published in the Journal of Archaeological Science: Reports has produced new and impressive evidence supporting the idea that the shipwreck found in 1863 was the Sparrow-Hawk, something shipwreck historians have long believed but were never able to prove. Through the application of techniques that can accurately date wood and trace it to its place of origin, the scientists involved in this study have linked the pieces of timber found on a Cape Cod beach in 1863 to the shipbuilding industry of late 16th and early 17th century England. The 40-foot small pinnace ship that was scuttled...

New York Times columnist Charles Blow has outlined a new proposition to increase Black political power: a mass migration of Blacks in America to the South to create Black-majority states and cities. Blow calls for a “Second Great Migration,” a reversal of the Great Migration that saw millions of Black Americans flee oppression and a lack of economic opportunity in the South for cities in the North, Midwest, and the West.

LONDON (Reuters) - People looking to track ancestors who emigrated from British ports will from Wednesday be able to search online passenger lists of the ships that carried them to new lands. Released by Britain's National Archives, the passenger manifests give an insight into all long-distance trips made by 30 million travelers from the country's ports between 1890 and 1960, including that of the Titanic which sank in 1912.
  • The Speedwell, forgotten ship of the pilgrims’ voyage (400 years today?)

Two ships were to carry the pilgrims to the New World, the Mayflower and the Speedwell. Two ships would carry the Pilgrims to the New World, the Mayflower and the Speedwell. If you’ve never heard of the Speedwell, that’s because the ill-fated vessel was abandoned after two attempts heading to sea. The Speedwell was a pine-hulled, square-sterner built in England in 1577 as the light warship, Swiftsure. She participated in the battle of the Spanish Armada, and later sailed as an exploration vessel to the Azores. After her decommissioning, she was renamed Speedwell.

As we debate the ongoing question of immigration – not just who and how many to allow in, but also when, if ever, to allow them to vote – it might be helpful to remember the thoughts of our Founders on the issue. It is now common for one side of the debate to say “we’re a nation of immigrants,” giving rise to the assumption that we always believed in open borders in the past, so this current concern about a wave of cultural invaders is something new… but in fact, nothing could be further from the truth. 215 years...

Via Truth Revolt and the Daily Mail, here’s the best evidence lefties have that Dolezal isn’t the racial equivalent of Caitlyn Jenner. The basic story she tells might well be true: Albert Wilkerson, the man she passed off as her dad, did serve in the Corps and did migrate north as a young child after his father “had a confrontation with a police officer” in Birmingham. But he isn’t her father, of course, and the fact that she went so far as to steal his history to back up her own claim of being black is a step that Jenner...
