A former field director for the political advocacy organization ACORN was sentenced today in district court to up to three years of probation. Christopher Edwards, who in August pleaded guilty to two counts of conspiracy to commit a crime of compensation for registration of voters, a gross misdemeanor, received a suspended jail sentence and a $500 fine. He has agreed to testify against ACORN and one of its former regional directors, Amy Busefink. The Nevada attorney general’s office has accused ACORN and Busefink of operating an illegal bonus system. Tying money to or setting quotas for collecting voter registration cards...

(CNSNews.com) - The U.S. Department of Justice is refusing to allow the town of Kinston, N.C., to hold nonpartisan local elections on the grounds that African Americans cannot win election without being listed as Democrats on the ballot. In a letter sent Saturday by to Kinston City Attorney James P. Cauley III, the Justice Department stated: “Removing the partisan cue in municipal elections will, in all likelihood, eliminate the single factor that allows black candidates to be elected to office.” The department Tuesday also refused to answer questions from CNSNews.com about the letter.

My husband and I are registered Republican but he noticed that his sample ballot had DEM on it instead. I arrived at the polling place and voted and didn't say anything but heard the polling volunteers saying that "This has happened quite a bit this morning. People who have registered as Republican are marked as Democrats on their paperwork"....and obviously can't vote for their party!!! I was livid and called the Republican Headquarters in Arcadia to tell them about it. They said they received quite a few calls this morning saying that there were a number of people registered Republican...

CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- The North Carolina Republican Party said it has received reports that some poll workers are trying to persuade Mecklenburg County voters to vote Democrat. David Turner said it happened to him when he went to cast his early vote at the University City Library. When a poll worker told him how to cast his vote, "she reached over and literally pointed her finger to the Kerry/Edwards ticket,"Turner said Tuesday.
