An exploit discovered on Wednesday could potentially search your local files and upload them to a server that appears to be in Ukraine, according to a blog post Mozilla published on Thursday. The company strongly recommends users update to the Firefox 39.0.3 or Firefox ESR (Extended Support Release) 38.1.1.
  • Mozilla to focus on minimizing desertions to Edge with new Windows 10 Firefox

Mozilla plans a campaign to stop or slow desertions from Firefox to Windows 10's new Edge browser because the OS's express setup changes previous defaults to Edge during an upgrade, according to published documents. Edge, introduced in Windows 10, will be the default browser out of the box. In fact, according to Mozilla -- supported by a video that showed what happened when Windows 7 was upgraded to Windows 10's build 10162 of July 2 -- those who upgrade by selecting "Express Settings," as most do, will find Edge the default even if they had previously specified a competitor like...

Mozilla, best known for its Firefox browser and operating system, has lost the man responsible for the core technologies of both products.roject to keep Firefox competitive with browsers like Google's Chrome. His departure is part of major changes Mozilla faces with Firefox OS. While Gal is moving into a new market, a new competitive threat is arriving. Mozilla's former president, Li Gong, is at work on another startup nicknamed Gone Fishing that's building a mobile operating system relying on the same Web-based approach Firefox OS uses, CNET has learned. Gong was the Firefox OS business leader before being promoted to...

  • Mozilla sleeps with the enemy as DRM arrives with Firefox 38

Ssshhh. They don't like it any more than you do MOZILLA has released Firefox 38, bringing the spectre of Digital Rights Management (DRM) to the platform for the first time. The organisation has traditionally shyed away from DRM as it considers the technology something that goes against the openness of the Mozilla platform. However, Mozilla was forced to admit in May 2014 that taking on DRM was essential to avoid losing ground to rivals by not being able to play streaming services such as Netflix and Spotify. Andreas Gal, CTO and vice president of mobile for Mozilla, said in a...

Original full title/subtitle:Microsoft's secret weapon in browser wars: Mozilla's supercharged Asm.js Native-speed JavaScript available now in Windows 10's Edge browser Microsoft has included a surprise feature in its new Edge web browser for Windows 10, in the form of support for the ultra-optimizable Asm.js JavaScript dialect. First developed by Mozilla and championed by the nonprofit's former CTO Brendon Eich, Asm.js is a strict subset of JavaScript that aims to be the "assembly language of the web." By eliminating many of the vagaries of the JavaScript language syntax, Asm.js forces client-side web code into a form that is easy for Just-In-Time...

In April 2015, we saw the naming of Microsoft Edge, the release of Chrome 42, and the first full month of Firefox 37 availability. Now we’re learning that Google’s browser has finally passed the 25 percent market share mark. Between March and April, here is how the browser market changed, according to the latest figures from Net Applications: •Internet Explorer: down 0.71 points to 55.83 percent •Chrome: up 0.69 points to 25.68 percent •Firefox: down 0.19 points to 11.70 percent •Safari: up 0.12 points to 5.12 •Opera: up 0.05 points to 0.48 percent Breaking the IE figure down further shows...
  • Firefox disables 'opportunistic encryption' to fix HTTPS bypass bug

Attackers could use fake certificate to get around protections. Mozilla has disabled an "opportunistic encryption" feature added to its Firefox browser last week, in order to fix a critical security flaw that allowed attackers to bypass HTTPS protections. The company last week released Firefox 37, which came with a new feature allowing connections to be encrypted even if a server didn't support HTTPS. This so-called "opportunistic encryption" acted as a bridge between plaintext HTTP and HTTPS connections based on either transport layer security (TLS) or the older secure sockets layer protocol. It allowed website owners who are unable to fully...

Google’s Android has gobbled up market share world wide, now accounting for over 80% of all smartphone shipped globally. But when it comes to actually making money, Apple is eating all the profits as it continues its focus on premium devices. Today Strategy Analytics said that Apple in Q4 last year accounted for 89% of all smartphone profits, equating to $18.8 billion, with Android taking only 11%, or $2.4 billion. The blow for Android is softened only slightly less so only by the fact that other platform players like Microsoft, Blackberry and Firefox seemingly made no profit at all.

Last week I had a very wierd computer glitch. It screwed up my text fonts, desktop icons and other stuff. At any rate I have gotten things mostly back under control, except for one thing. Java scripts refuse to run in Firefox. I have updated Firefox, I have update Java, I have gone through everywhere I can think of to enable Java script, but it still will not run. Does anyone have any suggestians on how to fix this or what the problem might be? It has me flummoxed. Any help is appreciated. Thanks!

YesScript 2.0 by Jason Barnabe A JavaScript blacklist About this Add-on YesScript lets you make a blacklist of sites that aren't allowed to run JavaScript. Use YesScript on sites that annoy you or hog your system resources. One click to the icon in the status bar turns scripts on or off for the current site. Unlike NoScript, YesScript does absolutely nothing to improve your security. I believe that Firefox is secure enough by default and that blocking all scripts by default is paranoia. YesScript strives to remove hassles from your browsing experience, rather than add them.

Party due to the ousting of Brendan Eich, partly because it keeps on wanting to install updates on my Mac, and then giving me the pinwheel of death. Google Chrome is out due to Net Neutrality. I've heard of Chromium or Pale Moon. Can anyone give decent suggestions please? Thanks!

It's time for a new HTML reference so you can make your posts look cool. HTML means Hyper Text Markup Language. It's a set of simple commands used to format the text of your posts, add images, or links, or change the appearance. URL is Uniform Resource Locator. It's the name of the page or the picture that you see, the www.http:// stuff. You'll need to use the URL to make links and post pictures. Quotation Marks Quotes have to be used around the URLs for web pages and images on Free Republic. Some systems do not require this. Ours...

I have long ago "cut the plug" and watch movies and TV exclusively thru the internet using sites like Veetle, Solar Movies, an Movies4k. I have always used no script and AdBlockplus as these sites are notorious for popups and ads...but once defeated the content is amazing. Recently I noticed videos have been lagging. The sound is fine but the picture keeps studdering/ quickly freezing and unfreezing. I have done all I can think, cleared temp files, reinstalled firefox, no success. I then disabled all add-ons and BINGO-movies now playing perfect-no lag...but the damn ads are back! When I reinstall...

OK, this is weird. Starting yesterday, my Firefox browser (was version 32.0) would not make bookmarks to pages on conservative sites. Free Republic, Hot Air, Lucianne... It worked on non-political sites just fine. This morning I updated to Version 33.0, and the problem still persists. I checked at Democratic Underground and Daily Kos, and they bookmark normally, but Again/still Free Republic, Hot Air and Lucianne.com will not do bookmarks.

When you take a look at Net Applications' web desktop browser market share reports over the long run two things stand out. One, there's the rise of Google's Chrome to second place, and two, Mozilla's Firefox's steep decline. After a long slow fall, Firefox's market-share decline recently got steeper. How bad is Firefox's fall? In June 2014, Firefox hit a new five-year low of 15.6 percent market share.Back in October 2009, Firefox was on the rise and had reached 23.75 percent. Life was good. Since July 2012, the browser started trending downward. Indeed, since May 2013, with Firefox at 20.6%,...

Mozilla recently decided to add DRM in Firefox even if Mozilla hates it. Almost all video streaming websites use some kind of DRM and as Microsoft, Apple and Google has already implemented DRM in their browsers, Mozilla thinks not adding the DRM in Firefox would make it useless as a product as the user will have to switch to other browser everytime a user visits a website with DRM.I am not going to either defend Mozilla on the decision of adding DRM in Firefox or write against it, they did what they had to do. In the end its...
