I'm awake. Is anyone else? Do you have an opinion about this turbulant week? I think that the Sunday shows will be more interesting than usual.

In the wake of the RIAA campaign, and increasingly aggressive tactics to defend Intellectual property by other companies, Reuters news service announced that it will use Fast Search & Transfer's (FAST) software to enforce it's IP rights. No more fair use -- even with factual content? [my intro, read Sean's article at internews.com]

My fellow freepers. I have a few questions about the purchase of a shotgun. I have just discovered how much fun shooting clay pigeons at the local club. I have only been a couple a times and rent a Browning over/under from the club. But that can get expensive and its a different gun each time. The person that I took some lessons from recommended a Baretta over/under. My questions are semi-auto vs. over/under, brand, barrel length, 12 vs 20 gauge? I will be using the shotgun for clays mostly. Thanks in advance.

Would you like to be instantly notified whenever someone flags you responds to one of your posts?Would you like to be instantly notified when you get FReepmail? Well look no further than this!http://www.freerepublic.com/perl/notify?detach=1Just click on that, and one should pop up.Save this URL as a bookmark (in your Internet Explorer) named "Free Republic," and you should be able to start up the "pager" window every time you log on to FR.JohnRob created this (I think) in order to save system resources, with this "pager" you don't need to use the full "self-search" feature anymore.

To: Freedom Wins So, it doesn't matter if he [Bush] snorted coke as a youth? It was a long time ago, a youthful in-discretion? Kinda like people who frequented sneakeasies during prohibition? Kind of a cute story, eh? Well, how about all the people whose lives have been destroyed by being arrested for the felony of drug possession? What about the millions of people who are rotting away in your filthy drug infested prisons at this very moment? Well, by God, if you people insist on electing another cokehead as President, you damned well better throw open all the prison...

DNS lookups failing for FR here - no such host. Apparently I'm not the only one, judging from a glance at the Yahoo FR board. Dunno if it's my ISP (Verizon) or what, but I had to manually edit the hosts file to get here. Presumably, if you can post, you're not having this problem, but there are more than a few people who can't post right now because of it...

Quoting John Robinson, the technical guru behind the hamsters - You should now be able to log into the site via our IP address. http://209.157.64.200/Log in: http://209.157.64.200/perl/loginWe're waiting on GKG to press some buttons and turn us back on. But I wouldn't be surprised if this took hours on their part. :-(

My "You've got mail" sign next to the my comments box has been lit up for two days straight! But I've had no mail! Sure it makes me feel good as if I've gotten mail, but I haven't. Consequently I just have to keep checking it because otherwise I would never know if I got freepmailed! Is anyone else having this problem?

Well how do I post pics I have never done it on Freerepublic. Any help would be great. Thanks Veloxherc

Hello all. I hope this post is in the right place. My husband and I are looking at a move possibly in the next year. I am wondering what states you all might consider to be the most "conservative-friendly" in terms of taxes, educational institutions and laws, general demographics, etc. Does this make sense? In Michigan, we seem to have relatively high taxes, numerous governmental "fees" (which they try to tell you are not the same as taxes), educational waste, and frivilous (sp?) laws aimed at behavior-modification. It is relatively easy to homeschool here, though. I'm curious to hear your...

From all I'm reading, the central question surrounding Mel Gibson's The Passion of the Christ is whether or not Gibson is portraying the Jews as responsible for the death of Jesus and whether or not this is anti-Semitism. I have a different question, if you'll pardon it coming from a non-Christian who's not seen the movie and isn't terribly familiar with the Christian Bible: So what? I understand history. I understand that blaming Jews for the death of Jesus was a cause of anti-Semitism in the past. Heck, my grandparents and great-grandparents came to America, fleeing that mindset. I understand...

One was a middle aged man, the other a woman in her twenties. One body was found above ground on the day of death - with a gun nearby - and reported as a "suicide," the other was buried in a shallow grave and the remains not recovered until about one year after her "disappearance." The crimes occured about eight years apart, 1993 and 2001 respectively. But look carefully at these similarities between the two cases. (1) The victims were last seen alive at locations in Washington less than one mile apart from one another. (2) The victims both had...

Discussion, what ever happened to the basics of journalism? Are the modern day journalists even taught them?

OK, this is probably going to sound like the tinfoil-iest of tinfoil observations. And I'll happily accept the inevitable bashing I'm going to get for this vanity. Anyhoo, if you haven't done so yet and you have Windows XP, buy or borrow a copy of the soundtrack for "The Passion of the Christ" on CD. I got mine today, took it home, and was using Windows Media Player to copy it onto my hard drive when I noticed something odd. In WMP, there is an option you can select called "Find Album Info." When you are logged onto the Internet,...

Okay, here's the scoop. Yesterday from noon on, I could not log on. Three AOL tech service calls to the Phillipines and/or India later, still no luck. I finally figured it was probably the modem. Got a new one today, rated at 56K. Installed it and the 8.0 Plus disc that came with it, it was working fine. More than fine actually. It was reporting connection speeds of 115K, about three times what I've ever managed on the phone lines here. Judging from the speed at which mail scrolled, it sounded possible. Problem solved, right? But..... Today I went to...

I always notice on program grids that CBS and ESPN block out a mere two hours for college basketball games. Yet they seem to invariably run over. Does television truly believe that two 20 minute halves of hoops will be finished in less that 2 hours, including telecast wrap up?foreverfree
