The co-founder of an alleged New York sex cult pleaded guilty Wednesday in a case that features allegations of female "slaves" forced into having the spiritual leader's initials branded onto their flesh. Nancy Salzman, 65, admitted to committing racketeering offenses, including identify theft, while working as president of the organization known as NXIVM. Known to her followers as "Prefect," Salzman faces 33 to 41 months in prison. Her sentencing was set for July 10. "I did things I knew were wrong and justified it was for the greater good," Salzman said in a hushed voiced during a hearing at Brooklyn...

We’ve seen ethicists discussing the controversial topic of time of death and organ donation before. Now, another ethicist is discussing the “moral insignificance of death” when it comes to organ donation in the latest issue of Cambridge Quarterly of Healthcare Ethics. As pointed out by BioEdge, Walter Glannon, a Canada Research Chair in Medical Bioethics and Ethical Theory and professor at the University of Calgary, is among the many ethicists that have begun questioning whether it’s necessary to wait until death before harvesting organs, especially in light of recent shortages. Glannon’s abstract states (the full article is available for purchase)...

"Parents should be allowed to have their newborn babies killed because they are “morally irrelevant” and ending their lives is no different to abortion, a group of medical ethicists linked to Oxford University has argued."
  • Ethicists Ask: “Why Should the Baby Live?”

It’s commonly understood that having a baby is the way to bring new life into the world. And typically, a life should live, right? Normal people don’t usually go around asking, “Why should that person live?” Usually, the question would be, “Why should they die?” But, in a strange—and horrifying—turn of events, ethicists have written in the UK’s BMJ Journal of Medical Ethics that some infants should be slated for death. They have written a paper entitled “After-Birth Abortion: Why Should the Baby Live?” Cassy Fiano has already detailed much of the information included in this outrageous paper. However, I’d...

Peter Singer is a calm, lucid and able debater, and our debate at Biola University in Los Angeles on April 25 was lively and hard-fought. Not for nothing is Singer considered a world-class philosopher and advocate. To watch the debate go to dineshdsouza.com and click on my AOL blog. Singer praised me for not simply making assertions of faith or hurling Bible passages at him but rather for using reason and argument to make my case . And I complimented Singer for stepping, so to speak, into the lion's den. (Biola actually stands for Bible Institute of Los Angeles.) Unlike...
