THIEVES escaped with thousands of litres of olive oil from a factory in the Teba municipality of Malaga province on Wednesday, August 16. Operating under the cover of darkness, the criminals took advantage of the factory’s remote location and managed to disable the facility’s security cameras and alarms before gaining entry during the early hours. As reported this Tuesday 22 by malagahoy.es, some of the stolen oil was already packaged while the rest of it was bottled up by the crooks. The theft went unnoticed until the workers started arriving at around 7 am the same day. In addition to...

More than 70 people were injured in clashes in Madrid on Wednesday as Spanish police used rubber bullets and batons to disperse anti-austerity protesters, witnesses and emergency workers said. Protesters, including a group of miners who have marched on the capital, are demonstrating against Spain's government and the cuts it is imposing as it seeks to curb the country's debt crisis. Hundreds of people quickly moved out of the area as police moved in, with witnesses reporting the use of rubber bullets and batons by officers. Madrid's ambulance service said 76 people were injured in clashes at or near the...

It's not often that you get the same headline in ABC and El País , but a result on such a scale allowed no room for interpretation: the two old rivals agreed that Spain had entrusted her future wholly to the conservatives. Happily, no one can now question the PP's mandate. Throughout the campaign, Rajoy promised to cut the debt and get people back to work by reforming Spain's sclerotic labour laws.

Mariano Rajoy gains absolute majority with 16 percentage point win over José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero's Socialists The conservative People's party (PP) of Mariano Rajoy has swept to a landslide victory in Spain's general election, inheriting sky-high unemployment and one of the shakiest economies in Europe. Rajoy's PP gained an absolute parliamentary majority with a crushing 16 percentage point win over the Socialists of outgoing prime minister José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero.   The Socialists lost a third of their seats as voters dumped a government that presided over a dramatic economic slump which has left 23% of Spaniards out of work.   With...

LifeSiteNews.com Thursday September 8, 2005 Gay “Marriage” a Bust in Spain MADRID, September 8, 2005 (LifeSiteNews.com) – Only 22 same-sex “marriages” have been registered in Spain since the law was introduced July compared to the 35,000 heterosexual marriages that took place in the same period. The lack of interest in “marriage” by same-sex couples has one writer commenting that the move was a bust. “The so-called need for legalizing homosexual marriages in Spain has one big problem. Hardly anybody wanted it – that is except the politicians,” writes Spero News writer Robert Duncan.Duncan quotes from the Spanish newspaper La Razon,...
