ASHEBORO — A Friday afternoon accident at the Sunset Avenue overpass in Asheboro caused traffic to be rerouted in and around the area. The incident was reported at 1 p.m. when a dump truck driven by Jeffrey J. Friedmann of Winston-Salem was traveling northbound on Interstate 73/74. He had just left the McDonald’s construction site on Dixie Drive. Friedmann told officers he noticed that the dump bed of the truck was beginning to move, according to a report from the Asheboro Police Department. The dump bed of the 1995 Peterbilt truck struck the support beams of the overpass bridge, causing...

On August 21, the moon's shadow will block the sun from view in a total solar eclipse. Wherever you are in the United States, you're going to want to look up, and that's OK. Every astronomer in the country will tell you to enjoy this rare opportunity. No matter what superstitions you've heard, there is no risk to your health due to simply being outside during a total solar eclipse. But there's one thing you shouldn't do, and that's look at the sun with your naked eye. Don't do it. Really. The only time you can look at the sun with...

Incident commanders say the Milli Fire, which is located about 9 miles west of Sisters, remains 0 percent contained. It started about a week ago and has spread to more than 4,600 acres. 250 personnel are fighting it, and a red flag warning has been issued for Friday. Crews expect it to spread with the help of 20 to 25 mph winds, along with warm and dry weather. A Level 3 evacuation (which means residents need to leave immediately) has been issued for the Crossroads subdivision, Remuda Road, Wildwing Road and Peterson Burn Road.

FULL TITLE: The U.S. Military Will Be Conducting ‘A Major Military Exercise’ On The Korean Peninsula During The Solar Eclipse On August 21st, approximately 25,000 U.S. troops will join “tens of thousands” from the South Korean military to conduct a “major military exercise” that is already triggering threats from North Korea. Considering the fact that any sort of provocation could cause a nuclear war to erupt on the Korean peninsula, is this really a wise thing to do? The more research that I do on this upcoming solar eclipse, the stranger things become. When I first started hearing about this...

Lou Tomososki was a high school teen in 1962 when his science teacher told the class about a solar eclipse that was going to take place that afternoon, NBC affiliate KGW reported. Tomososki and a friend viewed the partial eclipse outside Marshall High School in Portland. "The sun at that time, at 3:30 p.m., was in the one o’clock position," said Tomososki. "I said to Roger, 'If you stare at it long enough the brightness goes away.'" By that night, both Tomososki and Roger were having vision problems. He said the vision problems never got any worse — but they...

You've planned your road trip, downloaded your science apps, and bought yourself a pair of shiny new spectacles: you're ready for the eclipse. But is your eyewear is up to the task? With the Great American Eclipse approaching, demand for eclipse glasses—with special lenses designed to keep the sun from harming your peepers—is surging. And counterfeit glasses are everywhere. In fact, Amazon is so swamped by reports of possibly unsafe glasses that the company is allegedly sending out recalls and refunds for products that are certified as eclipse-safe.

DALLAS, TX — Untold millions are poised for the Aug. 21 eclipse of the sun on Aug. 21 (sorry, Texas, it'll only be partial from our horizon), but the date — when many kids gear up for the first day of school — is inconvient for one mom. "Most kids go back to school that day," the mom wrote the Perot Museum in Dallas that's hosting a solar eclipse party. "Can it be done on the weekend?" The answer is no. The date of the solar eclipse cannot be postponed for another day.

An esoteric prophecy written over a century ago described the solar eclipse that will traverse the entire United States next week and predicted, in shocking detail, what the astronomical event portends for the outcome of the current North Korean-US conflict. The total solar eclipse’s timing is meaningful according to the Jewish calendar. Incredibly, it comes precisely at the beginning of a Hebrew month – Elul – singled out in a Jewish source as having significance for the specific political situation the US is facing today with Eastern aggressors. image: https://www.breakingisraelnews.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/08/yalkut-moshe.png The “Yalkut Moshe”, written by Rabbi Moshe ben Yisrael Benyamin...

Turn off the lights during next Monday morning’s solar eclipse, and while you’re at it go after the “vampires” that may be sucking $100 worth of electricity a year from your home. That’s the advice from state utility regulators regarding the astronomical event that will darken skies across a broad swath of the United States as the moon passes between sun and Earth, disturbing animals, drawing crowds to the darkest areas where the eclipse will be total and temporarily curbing output from solar power facilities. To offset the loss, the California Public Utilities Commission is urging people, businesses and institutions...

As the Aug. 21 solar eclipse nears, communities within the path of totality are preparing for masses of people traveling in search of the optimal viewing experience. The expected influx has placed an unprecedented task in front of cities and towns that are unaccustomed to large tourist populations. Places like Hopkinsville, Kentucky, are working to transform their communities to prepare for the event. “This is unlike anything this community has ever seen or will probably ever see again,” Hopkinsville Solar Eclipse Marketing and Events Consultant Brooke Jung said. “We’ve got people coming from 42 different states and 18 different countries.”...

We are about to witness an extremely unusual convergence of events that many believe could represent a major turning point for our nation. By now you have probably heard that on August 21st a total solar eclipse will move across the entire continental United States for the first time in decades. In fact, we have not seen a total solar eclipse cross from the west coast to the east coast in 99 years. And it will be the very first total solar eclipse that is only visible in this country since the United States first became a nation. Starting with...

COLUMBIA, SC — Elephants, flamingos, giraffes and gorillas will share top billing with the darkened sky at Riverbanks Zoo during next month’s solar eclipse. Zoo officials plan to study 12 types of animals and birds to see if they act differently before, during and after the Aug. 21 eclipse. The effort is intended to show what impact, if any, the temporary mid-afternoon blackout has on some of the zoo’s 2,000 animals. Little is know about how animals behave during eclipses, zoo officials say. “It’s an opportunity to do a little bit of science instead of relying on anecdotes,” said Ed...

While many Americans are eagerly awaiting the upcoming total solar eclipse, which will be the first of its kind since 1979, some astrologers are cautioning one person in particular to be wary about the celestial event. And that person happens to be Donald Trump, the President of the United States. Wade Caves, an astrological consultant who published a lengthy analysis of the upcoming solar eclipse in its relation to Donald Trump's presidency, claims that the stars have been in POTUS' favor since the very beginning of his White House run. Caves points out that there was a total lunar eclipse...

COLUMBIA, SC (WIS) - When the total solar eclipse hits in a couple weeks, you'll need to have legit glasses to view it to protect your eyes. But what about our animals' eyes? Dr. Wendy King of Spears Creek Veterinary Clinic says, “The short answer is nothing because animals have an inherent knowledge of not looking at the sun and they just don't look up at the sun and stare. So they don't need special glasses.”

KNOXVILLE (WATE) — While East Tennesseans are keeping an eye on the sky, there’s going to be plenty of action on the ground at Zoo Knoxville as the total solar eclipse passes through on August 21. There are more than 700 animals at the zoo and staff plans to observe them during the time of totality. The phenomenon is raising questions like, how will animals react when their daily routines are driven by the cycles of night and day? “We don’t know what’s going to happen,” said Phil Colclough, with Zoo Knoxville.

Democrat lawmakers and climate change scientists warn that Trump’s disastrous environmental policies will culminate in the destruction of the Sun on August 21, 2017. Since taking office, Donald Trump has been rolling back Obama-era policies that curbed climate change on the pretense of liberating business owners from unnecessary job-killing regulations. However we now know that President Obama’s environmental regulations were the only thing keeping the world from being plunged into total darkness.
