Now her world is rapidly spinning out of control. She is pushed into more...

From her days persuading developers to exterminate lake flies around her home near the banks of Utah Lake to her time as a Saratoga Springs city councilwoman and her now current place in history as the first black Republican congresswoman, a reporter from The Salt Lake Tribune has never strayed too far from Mia Love. And that vault of reporting and data, much of which appeared on the Tribune's pages over the years, but some of which no doubt did not, is all available for $6.99 in the form of the e-book Mia Love: The Rise, Stumble and Resurgence of...

I know that some freepers here have written books that have done well. November is National Adoption Month and, surprise, I have written a book about adoption. Currently it is only in ebook format. Do any of the authors here have suggestions as to how an unknown author would go about promoting an ebook?

Big news from author, warrior, and patriot Matt Bracken. On Monday (10/14), "Enemies Foreign and Domestic" will be available for free download on Kindle for four days. "Domestic Enemies" will be made similarly available the following Monday (10/21), and then "Foreign Enemies and Traitors" on 10/28. On social media, the author stated: "I can't see much point in 'hoarding' the Enemies trilogy. If it's going to do any good, make any impact outside of the already-converted patriotic American 'choir,' it has to happen pretty soon. Nobody will give a damn about the Enemies Trilogy as a footnote to history if we...

My newest book is now on Amazon; it's a paperback. I need to convert it to ebook format but have been frustrated with the results produced by the automatic conversion systems. The book has several graphics; they are causing the epub to separate the background from the text overlay. Arrgh! I produced the manuscript on InDesign CS4 and exported it to PDF and the Kindle export. I am dissatisfied with both. Can anybody point me in the right direction. the book's website is here. Thanks for any help!

    Harvard University Press ^ | August 30, 2012 | From the website
Already famous throughout Europe, this international bestseller plumbs recently opened archives in the former Soviet bloc to reveal the actual, practical accomplishments of Communism around the world: terror, torture, famine, mass deportations, and massacres. Astonishing in the sheer detail it amasses, the book is the first comprehensive attempt to catalogue and analyze the crimes of Communism over seventy years. "Revolutions, like trees, must be judged by their fruit," Ignazio Silone wrote, and this is the standard the authors apply to the Communist experience—in the China of "the Great Helmsman," Kim Il Sung’s Korea, Vietnam under "Uncle Ho" and Cuba under...

CNSNews.com) – The U.S. Justice Department says it has reached a settlement with the Sacramento (California) Public Library over a trial program the library was conducting that let patrons borrow Barnes and Noble NOOK e-book readers. DOJ and the National Federation of the Blind objected to the program on grounds that blind people could not use the NOOK e-readers for technological reasons. The Justice Department said the settlement is aimed at stopping discrimination: “Emerging technologies like e-readers are changing the way we interact with the world around us and we need to ensure that people with disabilities are not excluded...

Indications first surfaced on Tuesday that the Department of Justice was readying an antitrust suit. The justice department is expected to settle with "several publishers" this week, as Reuters reported earlier that Simon & Schuster, Hachette, Penguin, Macmillan and HarperCollins...

  • Kindle 3rd Generation Review: Dislikes

This continues the review of the 3rd generation Kindle. Today, the dislikes. Read the likes here. (Both parts of the review total 3,200 words: much more than the limit of 300 to post as a blogger.)... There are no used books!---thus it is impossible to discover new authors cheaply. More readers discover new authors by reading used than new books: all common experiences attests to this. Given what we have seen in the music industry, publishers will tend to think their material dearer than it actually is (for example, they actually charge money for people to listen to Bruce Springsteen)....

Other than the frenzied anticipation for the coming breed of tablet PCs, the one topic that dominates the mindspace of the technorati these days is the world of e-readers. More specifically, a great debate is brewing; each of the e-readers and their associated online book stores favor differing standards and file formats, and we may have another good ole fashioned format war on our hands. (Nothing gets a techie's blood pressure going more than watching as competing technologies duke it out.) Format wars are to the tech world what elections are to politics, or what playoffs are to sports: a...

INFURIATING Scott G. McNealy has never been easier. Just bring up math textbooks. Mr. McNealy, the fiery co-founder and former chief executive of Sun Microsystems, shuns basic math textbooks as bloated monstrosities: their price keeps rising while the core information inside of them stays the same. “Ten plus 10 has been 20 for a long time,” Mr. McNealy says. Early this year, Oracle, the database software maker, acquired Sun for $7.4 billion, leaving Mr. McNealy without a job. He has since decided to aim his energy and some money at Curriki, an online hub for free textbooks and other course...

PG has published over 30,000 ebooks for free download in a variety of formats for anyone with an internet connection to enjoy at their leisure. After five years of development, the National Library Service has perfected its new digital talking books. In Montana, three Anaconda World War II veterans were the first to receive theirs. The veterans, Svend Wind, 82, Sid Beausoleil, 86, and Clarence Jones, 87, gathered Wednesday morning at the Hearst Free Library, where members of the Montana Talking Book Library presented them with the new machines.

Sony PRS-600 Reader Touch EditionReview When we reviewed Sony's original PRS-505 Reader a little over 12 months ago, our only real criticism was that the plethora of buttons and switches that festooned the device would be better replaced by a touchscreen. Revised edition: Sony's PRS-600 Reader Touch Now Sony has released its next-generation Reader, the PRS-600, which does indeed have a touch screen, hence its 'Touch Edition' moniker. Having asked, we have received. But should we grateful? Look at the Touch from any direction other than face on and the differences between it and the old Reader are a hard...
