What has four legs, hails from Spain, is notoriously difficult to kill, multiplies by 10 each year, and causes an annual $2.5 billion damage to the economy? If you guessed feral hogs, you are correct. An estimated nine million nomadic pigs currently roam America, destroying crops and properties which lay in their path, according to the US Department of Agriculture. Hogs even cause the occasional fatality - either through a rare bloodthirsty attack on a human or by charging across a highway and triggering a road traffic accident. In the most pig-dense states like Texas, law enforcement officials offer bounties...

Low-level laser therapy and associated photobiomodulation is the most effective of the known treatments for tinnitus, according to a study comparing the main therapies in current use. Often described as ringing or hissing in the ears, it is considered a symptom rather than a disease, but is unpleasant and in some cases incapacitating. Its known causes can range from a buildup of earwax and insufficient peripheral irrigation in the inner ear to brain damage and bruxism. Panhóca and his team tested alternative and complementary treatments for idiopathic (with no apparent cause) and refractory tinnitus on more than 100 men and...

A new treatment for tinnitus using vibrations created by synthesised music, improved symptoms in almost all patients during its first trial. The sonic brain reprogramming treatment, based on sound vibrations that pass through a bone behind the ear, helped eight out of ten of the patients who had twice-weekly sessions of the therapy. Its inventors, who are planning larger trials, say the technology could be a real breakthrough for the one in ten people who suffer with the debilitating condition at some time. Tinnitus is the sensation of a sound in the ear, usually a hissing, whooshing or ringing noise....

The two-year-old U.S. diplomatic relationship with Cuba was roiled Wednesday by what U.S. officials say was a string of bizarre incidents that left a group of American diplomats in Havana with severe hearing loss attributed to a covert sonic device. In the fall of 2016, a series of U.S. diplomats began suffering unexplained losses of hearing, according to officials with knowledge of the investigation into the case. Several of the diplomats were recent arrivals at the embassy, which reopened in 2015 as part of former President Barack Obama’s re-establishment of diplomatic relations with Cuba. Some of the diplomats’ symptoms were...

Hey guys. I'm 58 and have had tinnitus for about 30 years now. It has always been just an annoyance. But this year the volume has increased A LOT. It's like a very loud dentist's drill in both ears. I have heard that tinnitus can make you suicidal. I always scoffed at that but I'm starting to see why it would be attractive to some people.I have a few questions and would appreciate any feedback.1. I know there is not cure but do any of you know of anything that can reduce the volume?2. Do cochlear implants help tinnitus? 3....

I have found myself in recent years insisting that people believe their ears and not their eyes. Now our flesh demands to see by its own unregenerate power, only then will the flesh say it believes. But the truth is, our flesh does not often believe even when it sees. We usually figure, “they have some way of doing that†or perhaps we’ll say, “This is a trick, an illusion.†And illusionist can do some pretty amazing stuff! (See the video below). But the Scriptures are clear to say that Faith comes by hearing and hearing by the Word of God (Rom...

NEW HAVEN, Conn. (WTNH)-- A lot of people are still talking about a prank a couple of the of the UConn women pulled on the president at the White House. Another Washington D.C scandal...Bunny-Gate. Hardly, but lots of people are talking about UConn players Stefanie Dolson and Kiah Stokes putting up some bunny ears behind President Obama during a photo op at the White House. As the President was posing for pictures with the players, he said "alright no rabbit ears now." After a couple of laughs, he said ok, now you can. So Dolson and Stokes jumped at the...

I thought I could side-step the Jedi-Vulcan-mind field blowup from last Friday. Butt you know how geeks are, they just won’t let it die. The take-away from that presser was supposed to be “I AM NOT A DICTATOR” which worked pretty good for awhile. Then all the geeks, counter-geeks and presidential pundits had to weigh in. Pull your pantaloons up, my little Jedi warrior Next thing you know we’re getting analyses of whether the mix up of “Jedi mind tricks” with “Vulcan mind-meld” was purposeful, to demonstrate that Big Guy’s too cool to be a nerdy sci-fi geek. That argument...

One should always understand that we are all different so that it is impossible to suggest a single form of treatment that will work in every case and for every person. However, there is a very simple technique that has often shown to be effective in many cases of tinnitus (ringing in the ears.) Any person who is afflicted by this very unpleasant condition would do well to at least give this simple technique a try. To perform this technique, put the palms of your hands over your ears. The fingers are on the back of the head. The middle...

Taipei, May 20 (CNA) It is not unusual for mothers stop their children from eating in bed, but now doctors are also telling their patients the same thing -- if they don't want ants crawling into their ears. Although it is common to find small bugs in the ear canals, a local doctor said Friday that he recently found as many as 25 dead ants in the ears of a 16-year-old girl. Before seeking medical help, the girl, who has a sweet tooth, had been suffering from ear pain for several months, said Hung Yaun-tsung, chief of the Department of...

A 7-year-old girl named Samantha Shaw got plastic surgery because her mother feared bullies. The young girl has cup ears that protruded, and one of which also exhibited the condition known as lop ear. Did the family go too far? The little girl had been teased over her ears, and her parents finally decided that surgery to 'fix' the issue was the only solution. The procedure is called otoplasty where the ears are pinned back. This is extreme at such a young age, and going under the knife is not exactly completely safe. There are many complications that can occur,...

A grandfather who was tormented by the 'screaming in his ears' as a result of chronic tinnitus shot himself in the head, an inquest heard. Roy Sullivan's medical condition, where sufferers hear a constant ringing in their ear, had been getting progressively worse. The quiet 74-year-old was found with gunshot wounds by his wife at their home in Essex when she returned from her grandson's 14th birthday visit in January. Eileen Sullivan told the hearing: 'Roy was such a peaceful, quiet man. He just couldn't stand the noise. He liked to be quiet. If I had the radio on and...

A constant annoying ringing in the ears – called tinnitus - didn't go away when researchers tried zapping patients' heads with magnetic waves in a recent study. The researchers still think magnetic therapy could work, if they can find the right part of the brain to apply it to. "We haven't found the sweet spot yet," said Dr. Jay Piccirillo, the lead author of the study and a professor of ear, nose and throat surgery at Washington University School of Medicine in St Louis, Missouri. Tinnitus is caused by a "phantom" sound, thought to be the result of mis-wired brain...

President Obama said today at the White House Conference on Bullying Prevention that even a future president doesn't escape the taunts of bullies. "I have to say that with big ears and the name that I have, I wasn't immune. I didn't emerge unscathed," the president said. Mr. Obama, who hosted the conference at the White House with First Lady Michelle Obama, added that he had childhood memories of other kids being bullied. "As adults, we all remember what it was like to see kids picked on in the hallways or in the schoolyard," he said. President Obama and...

Walker irked by Obama's meddlingBy MJ LEE Updated: 02/18/11 9:27 AM Republican Gov. Scott Walker of Wisconsin, confronted with thousands of protesters outside of the state capitol in Madison, says “it would be wise for the president” to stay out of his state’s business. “I think we’re focused on balancing our budget,” Walker said on Fox News Friday morning. “It would be wise for the president and others in Washington to focus on balancing their budget, which they are a long ways from doing.” The governor – just a mere six weeks into his job – added that he is...
