A bipartisan group of four congressmen introduced a bill Thursday that would abolish the Selective Service System, more commonly known as the draft. "Maintaining the Selective Service simply makes no sense," Rep. Mike Coffman (R-Colo.), a former Marine, said in a written statement. "In 1973, the last draftee entered the Army and since then, despite the first Gulf War and subsequent wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, the Pentagon has never considered reinstituting the draft. Our all-volunteer military has given us the most elite fighting force in the history of this country." Coffman introduced the bill with Reps. Peter DeFazio (D-Ore.),...

Conservative leaders are opposiong the position taken by top military commanders that all young women be required to register with the Selective Service System, with Sen. Mike Lee (R-UT) summing up the mood of many on the Right: "I do not want to see my 15-year-old daughter drafted." In December, Defense Secretary Ash Carter announced that all combat positions without exception – including those in elite special forces units - would be open to women, and ordered all service chiefs to submit plans to implement the new policy by January 1. Last week, top military brass told the Senate Armed...

House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) told CNSNews.com at her press briefing on Thursday that requiring young women to register for the draft is "an issue that we should discuss." [...] "I think it's an issue that we should discuss. I think we should discuss it. Every time we use the word 'draft', people get a misunderstanding about what you're talking about, but I have supported women in every role in the military including Commander in Chief." ...

Fiorina: Marine Corp leaders should decide on jobs open to women Republican presidential candidate Carly Fiorina said in Greenville Thursday that Marine Corps leaders should be allowed to make their own decisions about whether to let women join ground-combat units without political interference from above. The Obama administration and Navy Secretary Ray Mabus are pushing to open all military jobs to women, despite a Marine Corps study of women in combat that found all-male units performed significantly better than mixed-gender units on tactical tests and that women were injured more than twice as often as men. Asked about the issue...

Currently, there is no military draft in the U.S. But there is "selective service," an odd requirement that all U.S. males, at 18 years old, register for -- what, exactly? Basically, it's a way to make it very easy to reinstate the draft. The U.S. military is currently planning to scrap all limits on placing women in combat roles (the current limits do not keep women totally out of combat). So the logical next question is: Should women be as subject to drafting as men? Should women have to register for selective service? That was Martha Raddatz's question in Saturday...

The most disappointing moment of Saturday night’s debate came when Jeb Bush, Chris Christie, and Marco Rubio each embraced the idea that women should register with the selective service, making it possible for America to draft women into ground combat. The argument for registration is based on the new Pentagon policy opening up all combat jobs to women. Women have served in non-combat roles for decades without any serious push for selective-service registration ensuing. In fact, the Supreme Court, in Rostker v. Goldberg (1981), has used the fact that men and women have different roles as justification for rejecting constitutional...

Peterborough, New Hampshire (CNN)Ted Cruz told a New Hampshire audience Sunday that requiring women to sign up for the draft is "nuts," breaking with the views of several Republican presidential rivals. Two days before the New Hampshire primary Cruz veered off his stump speech to blast his GOP competitors on the issue, which came up at the ABC debate Saturday. Marco Rubio, Jeb Bush and Chris Christie all said or suggested they'd support women being required to enroll in Selective Service and be eligible for the draft, since female service members can now serve in combat roles. Cruz was not...

PETERBOROUGH, N.H.-Ted Cruz on Sunday said he opposes requiring women to register for a potential draft, breaking with Marco Rubio, Jeb Bush and Chris Christie, all of whom indicated support for opening up the Selective Service to women during Saturday night's debate. "I have to admit, as I was sitting there listening to that conversation, my reaction was, 'Are you guys nuts?'" Cruz said Sunday, speaking at a town hall here. "Listen, we have had enough with political correctness, especially in the military. Political correctness is dangerous. And the idea that we would draft our daughters to forcibly bring them...

Full Title: Cruz Says Drafting Women 'Doesn't Make Any Sense' and Cruz called America's enemies, not its soldiers, "psychopaths." Peterborough, N.H.- Ted Cruz came out against requiring 18-year-old women to register for the Selective Service and the possibility of being drafted into the military. At a campaign event here Sunday afternoon, Cruz responded to some of his rivals, like Marco Rubio and Jeb Bush, who said in Saturday's debate that women should have to register. "It was striking that three different people on that stage came out in support of drafting women into combat in the military," Cruz said. "I...

Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump said Friday that he would support women in military combat roles, but would follow that advice from his military advisers "because I would want to hear that without a political bent." "The answer is yes because they're really into it," the billionaire businessman told Chris Cuomo on CNN. "And some of them are really, really good at it. "I would really speak to the generals, because I would want to hear that without a political bent," Trump cautioned. "To the public, they say, 'yes, yes, yes,' but I would want to hear it without the...

Did anyone else notice how badly Rubio, Bush, and Christie mangled the question of women registering for the Selective Service tonight? They all three demonstrated that they apparently don't understand what that means. Either that, or they're all heartless bastards who think that young women should be able to be forced to enter military service and die in combat. I've skipped some of the non-relevant chatter, but I've done my best to capture each candidate's response to the question. Radditz: Senator Rubio...should young women be required to sign up for Selective Service in case there's a draft? Rubio: ...I have...

An Open Letter to Independent Baptist Pastors in the Indiana 9th Congressional District. February 3, 2016 (Revised) Our Christian Daughters Potentially Subject to Selective Service Registration Dear Pastors: At some point you will have to develop a genuine conviction from the Scriptures on issues related to (1) Christian women serving in the Armed Forces; (2) Christian women serving in combat roles; (3) Christian women being required by federal law to register for Selective Service (register for the draft). American women have pushed their “rights†to serve in military functions alongside men, including in combat roles, to the point that now...

This week, while addressing the Senate Armed Services Committee regarding the ongoing effort to open combat positions to female troops, the Marine Corps commandant and Army chief of staff both told senators "that they believe women should be required to sign up for the military draft now that they are being integrated into all combat positions." The generals, Robert Neller, USMC and Mark Milley, US Army, told the committee that women should no longer be exempted from the Selective Service program. The integration of women into combat position without a long term study by the defense department is being forced...

Two Generals in the military have come forward to say that women should now have to register for the draft, as the Defense Department has opened up combat jobs to women. Marine Corps Commandant Gen. Robert Neller and Army Chief of Staff Gen. Mark Milley agreed that the current policy, which requires only males register for the Selective Service System, should be changed after restrictions that barred women from trying out for combat jobs were lifted last year. "Every American who's physically qualified should register for the draft," said Neller at a Senate Armed Services Committee hearing Tuesday. "I think...

The President of the United States of America To: the women of America, ages 18 – 26, you are being notified that you have been selected for training and service with the US Army, Navy, Marines and Air Force, courtesy of leftist social engineers who have no clue what military service or combat is all about. The military draft ended in 1973, but since 1980, all young men in American must register for the draft on their 18th birthday and our eligible to be called up, should the nation need their services. Now, women will soon be eligible to be...

...said they were in favor of the change during an occasionally contentious Senate Armed Services Committee hearing on the forthcoming full integration of women in the military. They offered their opinions in response to a question from Sen. Claire McCaskill (D-Mo.), who said that she also is in favor of the change. "Senator, it's my personal view that, based on this lifting of restrictions... every American who's physically qualified should register for the draft," Neller said. "Senator, I think that all eligible and qualified men and women should register for the draft," said Milley. The comments are a first in...

Evidently, to the White House, the findings within reports and surveys are subjects of convenience. They only matter when they conform to the broader agenda, otherwise they're meaningless. The dismissal of the Marine Corps and special operations community in the gender integration process is proof of this fact. snip*** It's imperative that each job maintains the highest standards and continue developing the highest quality personnel, regardless of gender, quotas or any other benchmark. The significance of this process requires more thoroughness and evaluation than what's been given so far, including whether women will now be eligible for the selective service....

For over 40 years, Hillary Clinton has been pushing to put women in combat and now she’s close to succeeding—whether women like it or not. Your daughter or granddaughter could soon be compelled to register with the Selective Service at the age of 18 alongside all American males. Today, I’ll share what you need to know to confront Hillary and Obama’s unconstitutional and unscientific approach to fighting the phony War on Women and the real War on ISIS. In 1975, at the age of 27, Hillary was the newly-married wife of Bill Clinton and a law school teacher when she...

When President Barack Obama announced that women would be eligible for combat roles in the military earlier this month, he stated “our armed forces have taken another historic step toward harnessing the talents and skills of all our citizens.†Secretary of Defense Ash Carter echoed those thoughts: “Our force of the future must continue to benefit from the best people America has to offer … in the 21st century, that includes drawing strength from the broadest possible pool of people.†This change is going to help the military in any number of ways: It’s a step toward greater fairness, and...

AUSTIN — Women soldiers in the U.S. Army may march into combat alongside men but last week’s leap for gender equality could draw some dubious reactions if teenage girls are forced to sign up for the draft. “If you want to go, that’s your decision, but the decision shouldn’t be made for you,†said Rakiya Cunningham, 20, a sophomore majoring in finance at the University of Texas at Austin. “If you’re going to draft women, who’s going to take care of the children?†The military hasn’t drafted soldiers in more than 40 years, but most male citizens and immigrants, 18...
