Food shelves ‘can’t possibly absorb’ need as 1.1 million brace for loss of SNAP benefits in Minnesota, Wisconsin

Forty-two million Americans are days away from losing Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits, including more than 1.1 million people in Minnesota and Wisconsin.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Food and Nutrition Services recently notified states that if the government shutdown continues, “there will be insufficient funds to pay full November SNAP benefits.”

More than 440,000 Minnesotans — roughly 8% of the population — use SNAP benefits.

In Wisconsin, nearly 700,000 people — or 12% of the state’s population — rely on SNAP through the state’s FoodShare program.

Open Cupboard Executive Director Jessica Francis met 5 EYEWITNESS NEWS at its Oakdale Today’s Harvest free market location on Saturday. Francis is also a board member for the St. Croix Valley Food Bank.

“It has felt like it felt at the beginning of the pandemic,” Francis said.

Volunteers have already been serving 450-600 people a day here, she said, adding that they’re noticing a rise recently, including more first-time visitors.

“We were already, over the last few weeks, starting to see families that are affected by the shutdown, you know, families that are either furloughed or they are still working but not getting paid,” Francis said.

“Then this last week, when they announced that SNAP benefits are going to end, because they’re not funded for November, it’s just — it’s taken us from, you know, a system that’s bending to a system that could be breaking.”

As 5 EYEWITNESS NEWS reported earlier this week, roughly 8% of Minnesotans are days away from losing SNAP benefits. About 12% of Wisconsinites are bracing for impact.

A reporter at ABC affiliate station WISN-TV asked Gov. Tony Evers if the state would step in to fill the gap.

“Well, we’ll do that, but we sure would like the federal...

Schumer would rather burn down the blue cities with food riots than back down to the “evil” DJT.

As long as they are deep blue cities, I am not losing any sleep over it.
So how come a massive “700,000 people — or 12% of the state's population — rely on SNAP through the state's FoodShare program” in Wisconsin?

If communities fill up their food banks voluntarily, is it cheaper than having the government do it?

We all know that a certain percentage of snap recipients will be like this re their sugar/junk food fix:

The driving question is nailing down what that percentage is exactly...

Old-fashioned charity could help, but that is in short supply in Blue Cities and among Dems generally.

I ate for a little less than $5 today. That is less than $150 a month. Most jobs are paying about $18 an hour here. So about 1 days work to pay for a month’s food. And I could eat cheaper than that if I had to.

So go out and get a job. And if you are an illegal take the $1,000 and go home.

>> I think cities will burn if SNAP benefits run out.

They may try, and in some cities they may succeed in destroying the place.

But it’s not 2020, the shutdown isn’t George Floyd’s suicide, the sane segments of the populus aren’t locked down, and President Trump damn sure ain’t Joe Biden. If they FA I think they will FO. Good and hard.

If food stamps run out in these democrat run states, it’s because the state refused to fully fund it. If they wanted to, they would.

"Old-fashioned charity could help, but that is in short supply in Blue Cities and among Dems generally."

Catholic charities were busy helping bring illegals here the past four years. They should be the first ones coughing up money and food to feed the people they brought here illegally.
