The Doberman was taken in after he was found wandering around Birmingham New Street station on his own. Believing he was a stray, the volunteers took him on a trip to the vets only to discover he had been microchipped, tracing him back to Huddersfield - a three-hour journey. But the chip had no contact number for the canine’s owners, so the now-homeless pooch has been taken in by Hilbrae Kennels in Telford, Shropshire. Volunteers at the kennels believe the clever dog must have somehow managed to swap trains at Manchester Piccadilly, which link Birmingham New Street with Huddersfield.

In family movies featuring dogs, Doberman Pinschers are often cast as the baddies. Why not? After all, they’re large with mask-like features, and if they’ve had their ears cropped, they can look a little frightening. In real life, Dobermans are often employed in police and security industries because of their intelligence, readiness to work and their inherent strength. This dichotomy has led to wild public misconception about the breed – and their role in family life. Ready to separate the facts from the fiction about Dobermans? Here are the myths you may have heard, and the truth behind them. Myth:...

An owner of two Dobermans thought it would be amusing to take the dogs to a playground and see what happens when he put them on a slide there. Somewhere in the end, a lesson was learned. Maybe. Don’t worry, no one was hurt — neither human nor canine — in making this video, which is going viral today. But it does show that a Doberman can exercise basic common sense. Well, sort of. “It was my stepson 23 yrs old that went up the steps & had the dogs follow him up and PERSUADED THEM TO SLIDE,” wrote Sherry...

A Pennsylvania woman on vacation in Florida took a tip from two dolphins to save a lost Doberman Pinscher that got stranded on a sandbar. When Audrey D'Alessandro and her husband, Sam, walked out of their home on Marco Island, near Naples, Fla., to go fishing, "we saw these two dolphins, and they were splashing and making this big commotion" in a canal behind their vacation home, she said. Although it is not uncommon to see dolphins swimming through the canal on their way to the Gulf of Mexico, Audrey D'Alessandro said that this time, "they were just there, in...

This purebreed is pure hero. A Doberman pinscher competing in the Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show in New York City next week is being credited with saving his Staten Island owner’s life nearly three years ago by detecting her breast cancer. Troy, then a 4-month-old puppy, alerted Diane Papazian, 56, to a dangerous lump in her breast while they were cuddling in bed, said her husband, Harry. Diane thought it was peculiar how persistent the pooch was in his nuzzling, leading her to conduct a self-examination and to discover the lump. She underwent a double mastectomy and chemotherapy to beat...

He's a male Blue point Doberman, rescued from the animal shelter at a very young adult age. He's actually grown a bit over the 2 years we've had him. Well he's starting to have some biting problems now after 2 years. He's bitten my sister (the owner) 3 times breaking skin each time, bruising bone and requiring antibiotics. These have happened to her at night when he's sleeping with her and her husband. Seemed it was some type of sleep problem from being woke up from dead of sleep. Now he's bitten me. I've had direct contact with the dog...
