WASHINGTON, DC–Reps. Byron Donalds (R-FL) and Chip Roy (R-TX) slammed Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) for violating the Hastert Rule after the $60 billion Ukraine aid bill passed on Saturday without a majority of Republican support. The longstanding rule directs that a Republican speaker will only put legislation up for a floor vote if a majority of the GOP conference supports it. The rule is meant to prevent a GOP speaker from colluding with Democrats to pass bills. But most of the GOP did not back the Ukraine bill.

All human institutions are essentially a reboot of high school, and within the political scene the Never Trumpers are convinced that they are the cool kids despite being the chess club of American politics. No, they aren't the cool kids. They’re geeks, they haven't won a tournament in years and, more importantly, they're the freaking chess club. In contrast, we normals are just that, the members of the student body who have lives and after-school jobs and girlfriends and who don't care about the dorks padding their resume with student body presidencies or, in this case, jobs at the Eagle Liberty...

WASHINGTON -- U.S. employers added only 80,000 jobs in June, a third straight month of weak hiring that shows the economy is still struggling three years after the recession ended. The unemployment rate was unchanged at 8.2 percent, the Labor Department said in its report Friday. The economy added an average of just 75,000 jobs a month in the April-June quarter. That's one-third of the 226,000 a month created in the first quarter. For the first six months of the year, U.S. employers added an average of 150,000 jobs a month. That's fewer than the 161,000 a month for the...

NEW YORK (AP) -- Stocks fell on the final day of the first quarter after a payroll company's report gave investors a surprising reminder that the job market remains weak. ADP said Wednesday that private employers slashed 23,000 jobs in March. Economists surveyed by Thomson Reuters had forecast the report would show private employers added 40,000 jobs during the month. The ADP report is seen as an early indicator of the Labor Department's monthly employment report, which is due out Friday. However, there can be wide variations between the two.
  • Federal mortgage modification plan disappointing so far - Home Affordable Modification Program(HAMP)

Atlanta – The Obama administration announced Friday that its much-lauded mortgage modification plan has had a disappointing start, helping far fewer Americans stay in their homes than originally hoped. Intended to bolster struggling homeowners, the Home Affordable Modification Program (HAMP) has permanently helped only 66,000 homeowners out of 4 million that may be eligible. As foreclosures are expected to rise from 2.8 million in 2009 to 3 million in 2010, analysts expect the Obama administration to modify the modification program to keep it from becoming another major political issue in a year when Democrats are facing a growing anti-spending sentiment...
  • US jobs numbers 'disappointing': White House (more 'Bush's fault'.. enough already, Gibbs!)

WASHINGTON (AFP) – The White House on Friday described news that the US economy lost 85,000 jobs in December as "disappointing." "Today's jobs report is, obviously, disappointing," said spokesman Robert Gibbs, adding: "We are in a very tough economic environment. "Since this recession officially began more than two years ago, seven million jobs have been lost." ... The White House said ordinary Americans were still suffering, but showed some signs of optimism. "We've got a long way to go," said Gibbs, "I think if you look through and analyze some of the numbers, there are some bright spots."

Bird flu vaccine trial gives disappointing results 23:00 29 March 2006 NewScientist.com news service Debora MacKenzie Yet another trial of an H5N1 bird flu vaccine in humans has ended in disappointment, with only high doses giving a good immune response. John Treanor, at the University of Rochester, New York, US, and colleagues tested a vaccine made by the French-owned firm Sanofi-Pasteur. It contained the vaccine “seed strain” of H5N1 created in 2004, grown in eggs, killed and split, the way standard flu vaccines are made. But like earlier trials with a similar preparation, the vaccine elicited a significant immune response...
  • DEMOCRATIC WALLWEED - (top Dem movers & shakers avoiding Dr. Demonic; desperation in party)

DEMOCRATIC WALLWEED Judging by where Democratic National Committee chairman Howard Dean has spent the last few days, he almost certainly attempted to get invited to Sen. Hillary Clinton's and Sen. Harry Reid's fundraising events in Los Angeles. According to DNC sources, Dean intentionally planned a West Coast swing around the dates Clinton and Reid had circled for their events. On Sunday, Dean was in Seattle, a quick shot down the Left Coast to Los Angeles, with plans to fly to San Francisco for events Monday. Before Seattle, Dean spent time with Democratic donors in Montana. There is an increasing whiff...

I usually enjoy Stephen King's writing enough to take his political leftism with a grain of salt. This is because he truly understands how to construct a first-rate story. He crafts his books exquisitely and builds tension until they are impossible to put down. It's like listening to Howard Dean passing the baseball bat. I know full well the man is a whacked-out lefty fruit bat, but he sure puts on one heck of a show. At least he did until he wrote this one. Song of Susannah tells the story of a heroic female character, Susannah Dean, who is...
