"And the idea was, the shark comes to the nearest man, that man, he starts poundin' and hollerin' and screamin', sometime's the shark goes away, sometimes he wouldn't go away. Sometime's that shark, he looks right into ya, right into your eyes. And another thing about that shark. He's got lifeless eyes, black eyes, like a doll's eyes. When he comes at ya, he doesn't seem to be livin'. Until he bites you." Quint from Jaws

AL Gore, the former US vice-president who won the popular vote at the last presidential election, will visit Australia this month to urge the Howard Government to sign the Kyoto agreement on reducing greenhouse gases. Mr Gore will speak at Sydney's Westin Hotel on May 29 and argue against US President George Bush's policies on global security and environmental sustainability. In 2000, Mr Gore, the Democratic Party's nominee for president, won 500,000 more votes across America than Mr Bush. His supporters also argue that he won the key state of Florida but the Republican-dominated Supreme Court ruled in favour of...

It was said on another thread that first word of the Desert Storm air campaign came at 6:41 eastern, during the evening news, and Bush 41 addressed the nation at 7:00 pm. COuld the war start NOW? We are not in Turkey yet, Blitz's report is on the 7th, but the PERFECT time to attack is between the 28th (Friday) and the 4th. (because of the moon or something) If we want to take them by suprise, wouldnt NOW be the time? And is it possible? Any serious repercussions?

Former vice president Al Gore yesterday urged Maryland Democrats to remember the outrage they felt over the results of the 2000 presidential election and channel it to bring voters to the polls in the tight gubernatorial race. Appearing with Lt. Gov. Kathleen Kennedy Townsend at a boisterous rally at Bowie State University, Gore asked people whether they recalled where they were when the U.S. Supreme Court decided to discontinue counting ballots from the disputed Florida vote two years ago. Dozens of hands shot up. "Are you over it?" Gore asked, to which the crowd shouted that it was not. "Use...

Nashville -- THERE HAS ALWAYS been a debate over the destiny of this nation between those who believed they were entitled to govern because of their station in life, and those who believed that the people were sovereign.

That distinction remains as strong as ever today. In every race this November, the question voters must answer is, How do we make sure that political power is used for the benefit of the many, rather than the few?

SEN. JOE LIEBERMAN, D-Conn., is worried about former Vice President Al Gore. Lieberman thinks that Gore came across as too anti-rich when they ran for the White House in 2000. And he thinks Gore is overly hostile toward business now, as they're eyeing each other and a new bid for the White House in 2004.

  • The Al and Joe routine

During the 2000 presidential campaign, Al Gore couldn't decide whether he wanted to be seen with President Clinton.

Now Gore and Sen. Joe Lieberman are giving us a repeat performance of that tortured "should I or shouldn't I" routine.

Like Clinton and Gore, Gore and Lieberman once professed their love for another. But now they're quarreling openly. It's all about "the people versus the powerful," says Gore. No, it's not, Lieberman responds. It's about being fiscally responsible, pro-growth and pro-middle class.
